Our badge is one of, if not the best in the country. Why change it?
Has anyone thought that they aren't trying to claim Bristol, maybe just that they're from Bristol? How dare they.

One one hand it annoys me and on the other it doesn’t. It annoys me because City are trying to claim something that isn’t theirs and it’s the utter neck of it. A bit like the “welcome to Bristol” thing they had going on when they signed Taylor. Would I like to see Rover use it? I would like to see Rovers change the club badge, I’ve never really liked it. I would like to see something Bristol related in the badge . On the other hand, we have so many other important things to get straight that I don’t often think about it until someone mentions it, therefore, it doesn’t often annoy me!! What's more Bristolian than a Pirate? Slavery, maybe but I can't really see that being an option. A bottle of sherry? A craft beer? A bloomin stewdent? pint of Natch

I like the current badge and I think I'm in the minority in that.
Let them do what they want, if they want to have their franchise of sports teams with the same badge then that's up to them.

So, technically, in heraldry, the crest is just the bit of the coat of arms above the shield (I know the whole badge is often called crest in football), so the crest in the Bristol coat of arms is a helmet and a snake, so I think that's quite appropriate. South Gloucs council just have a crappy logo. But Gloucestershire's coat of arms is this (who wants a couple of dead sheep on their badge?, and presumably footwear for a three legged horse):

That's almost football related. Could probably make it mean 'always attack.' Maybe we could change it to 'Parkus Omnibus.'

Thought I'd google translate 'Happy days' into latin. Came up with 'Felix dies' - which on reflection seemed a little inappropriate maybe.
'Ut procer bastardis' might have legs though.

I actually like our badge too. Yes, the pirate might look a little camp but it's smart, recogniseable, represents us well and most importantly is very marketable. How many other teams have a pirate or another such historic figure on their badge? It sort of irks me that city use the Bristol crest but honestly it's quite dull and uninspiring so they can keep it.

Perhaps we should have a badge with a pirate, the gasworks, Bristol coat of arms and Bath coat of arms. That would outdo those south of the river!!!

Whether anyone thinks our Pirate badge is camp or not, it is at least distinctive and miles better than most of the tripe other clubs have

I don't particularly like our current badge, wouldn't want anything to do with the city crest tho. I like the old square badge.

Bristol City do not use the Bristol Crest. Neither Bristol clubs is allowed to use it. Both clubs have clarified this issue in the past and explained that they cannot use the crest.
What Bristol City use is a cartoon mock up of the Bristol Crest which diversifies far enough from the original so that it doesn't breach copyright.
Toffs use it on the retro Rovers shirt but that is Toffs and not Bristol Rovers.
Hopefully that clears that issue up.

Wasn't that crest on our shirts back in the 80s? Definitely not in the 1980s The real historians may have a better idea, but I do vaguely recall the Bristol crest on the shirt from some photos in the 1950s, but it was pretty short lived if that was the case. I know the Bristol crest was worn on club blazers during the 1970s (and presumably before). This site: www.historicalkits.co.uk/Bristol_Rovers/Bristol_Rovers.htmsuggests the crest was adopted in the 1950s, but never worn on the shirts.

One thing has been annoying me for a very long time, not pasties, who owns what and when will they deliver it, where will it be and how will it look when /if it eventually gets here.......................whether DC is a god or a clown...................who has more tote end brownie points than the next man............. That shower of sh*t from south of the river appear to have claimed ownership of the crest of the City of Bristol as their property. It replaced that ridiculous robin on a football from the nineties and has been there since, albeit in a transitional form. The Rugby club still have their version of the crest. As Bristol's oldest football club it's about time we incorporated it into our kit, took it back, took ownership of it and disassociated the turds from their perceived ownership. There is no reason why we could not have two badges, the pirate on the chest, the Bristol crest on the heart of the shirt. Come on Wael, you know it makes sense. Wos fink like? Yes I totally agree and have thought the same for a long time, I had a tattoo of the coat of arms crest with Bristol Rovers F.C. wrote above on the ribbon on my left calf done in 1991 when the sh1t had their cartoon robin and suspension bridge badge only for them to change it to the coat of arms of Bristol a few years after. Imagine the stick I got from some of my sh1thead mates and lads I played football with but my response was of not giving two f@cks and Rovers being Bristol’s oldest professional club. I stayed defiant and it’s still there to the day, I ve been pulled by Rovers fans and 82ers alike over the past 26years for varying stories but would love to see Rovers revert to this badge it would shut those c@nts right up . I still think that mine other than having Bristol Rovers F.C. above is a far better design than their crap attempt , their unicorns look like a version of my little pony. You aren't choosy then. I hope you aren't expecting us dogs to join in your filthy depraved game
