Nice nobs ,the live rock looks good should be called suprise rock as it always seems to sprout new stuff. how many times have you removed pulsing xenia and cut iy up with scissors to fill a gap in the tank ,this link made me chuckle ,one of those oh yeah i forgot after you've been chopping coral on the table www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-43666407Forgot to say, I didn't use Live Rock when I set it up. I try to be 'green' as much as I can. For example, wherever possible I always try to buy tank-bred fish and not any caught in the wild. The rock was called 'Dry Reef Rock'. It's actually manufactured so it is not real rock that has been removed from the sea. This is a change from the old Real Rock, because as you know with Real Rock you can get some good things grow from it, but also some bad things, so using artificial reef rock let's you set-up from scratch without any nasty surprises. To be honest it doesn't look any different to Real Live Rock. The same with the Corals. All of mine started out as Frags. For those that don't know, most Corals can be what is called 'Fragged', which means you can take a Coral, cut it into smaller pieces (Frags), and then the smaller pieces will grow. It's pretty rare nowadays for Corals to be taken from the sea. I always preferred live rock ,but on some occasions i would by the fake rocks secondhand as you still got a few sunrises when it settled in hence a bloody tank full of pulsing Xenia ,had an external magnifier attached to the glass used to spend too long looking over the rock ,it's pretty amazing what goes on at that level some weird and wonderful stuff crawling over those rocks

I just bought a pair of these beauties. They are called Jam Sandwich Goby's. What they do is to 'suck up' the sand, and then sift it through their Gills, extracting any microbes/food etc that they find. The upshot of this behaviour is that they keep the sand "Bahamas White" !

I don't usually venture into general chat, but this is really great, I wish I'd seen it sooner, I love trigger fish! My dad is really into his freshwater tanks and I'm still trying to talk my wife into getting a tank after 7 years...

They are model citizens in the tank. Here is a small clip of the Jam Sandwich Goby's cleaning the sand as described. They do this all day long and the sand is a Bahamas White colour !

Well, this is the most exciting thing that happened over the weekend. It is the first time my Trigger fish have been all loved up. This is very good as it means that conditions in the tank must be good, otherwise they wouldn't be doing this. Apologies for the poor quality video, but this happened at dusk...

My tank is maturing nicely and I'm seeing good coral growth everywhere. Here is the latest video.
My next thing to play with is breeding Brine Shrimp. These will just be food for the fish. A few years back everyone were still using flake food. Then frozen food came along which enhanced the quality of the food given to the fish. For example my fish get Krill, Plankton, Shrimp, and various other meaty stuff every day, which is much better than flake food. The next step is to provide a regular supply of live food, hence the Brine Shrimp breeding. So here are a couple of short videos on setting up my first Brine Shrimp breeder.

A member of my family got into tropical fish. And these ugly things that eat each other. They were obsessed with them for a few weeks then got rid. They make you feel relaxed i suppose.

My fish do not eat each other. You have to do some research and find out what can co-exist with what. An aquarium is not just for xmas.

My fish do not eat each other. You have to do some research and find out what can co-exist with what. An aquarium is not just for xmas. Sometimes the research doesn`t always bear fruit. Many years ago, I put a Kribensis into my tank. The guy who ran the shop who sold me the fish, ( Mapson`s on Stapleton Road ) assured me that the Kribensis was a peaceful, community fish. Well, this fuc*er wasn't. It was the Charles Manson of the piscine world. It attacked everything, including fish twice it`s size. No way would I ever recommend keeping one of them.
