"Negotiators on all sides are agreed a hard border with physical infrastructure must be avoided to avoid a return to the violence and bloodshed which scarred Northern Ireland and parts of the Republic for decades during the Troubles."
Can someone explain to me, why a 'hard border' in Ireland will result in a return to the bloodshed? I mean, first off we were told that that the PIRA had given up all their weapons! Surely the public haven't been told lies?

Surely the public haven't been told lies? Wouldn't it result in less bloodshed if a repeat of the troubles ever occurred due to the IRA not being able to mount raids on Newry and Armagh as easily from the republic and it being harder to smuggle guns and knives into the north? I'm not advocating a hard border btw, I think it's important to make sure that trade and people flow between northern and southern Ireland as easily as possible, it's just sometimes you have to challenge the stuff said by so called "Experts".
