Seating is only dangerous when people stand up. Fact Clubs have been unable to stop people standing up. Fact. Ban them then

Looks like that petition is making good progress: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/207040 up to 70k.
Quite a few clubs coming out in support now. Hopefully this forces a debate.

I signed it and like you say I hope it forces a debate. There’s no doubt in my mind that we will see it one day but it looks like that day will be in the far distant future when crowd tragedies and hooliganism are beyond living memories.

A point I’m sure has been made before, but are prem and championship fans’ lives worth more than mine? From recollection, I seem to find myself still standing on a packed traditional terrace at home games and many an away game. Is my life in danger? I’ve not felt any less safe on a terrace or seating - the ‘feeling safe’ factor for me is more to do with who the opposition is (Burton a much friendlier trip than City for example). Do politicians have any clue that thousands upon thousands of fans to this day still stand on crumbling terraces? Probably not.

The all seater part of the Taylor report was a part of the cover up in the hillsborough disaster in my opinion. It wouldn’t have mattered whether there had been terracing or seats if the organisation of the police had been right , if the cages at the front weren’t there etc. It didn’t happen because it was standing , they used that as an excuse for their failings and still do to this day. By the way I agree with your post , not arguing it , it’s just something I feel very strongly about. Thatcher hated football and hated football fans and the way her government and therefore the police policed football something like Hillsborough was always going to happen. Cage people up and treat them like animals and they will die like caged animals and in terms or hooliganism often behave like animals too. Policing in this country has improved a lot at football matches since it’s just such a shame that something like that had to happen for it to change. .

I’m sure a small terrace of 5 or six steps around all sides of the ground could not be deemed unsafe. “ Pile ons” at school with 5 or 6 and the kid at the bottom would still be laughing. It would usually take double that or a couple more fatties before sh1t got real. It would actually be a safety feature which could be used to help vacate the seats behind in an emergency. Supply and demand. With only a limited number available we could charge a premium to stand up. Alternatively it’s only 90 minutes , just sit the fck down. You have the rest of the week to stand up.

Totally agree. Crushes only happen when too many people are in an enclosure or too quickly forced in to an enclosure with no way out, ie hillsborough. Removing the fences at the front was enough. If you’ve got a rail 4 foot high at the front with a gate every 3-4 meters that can easily be opened then there’s no fear of a crush in my opinion, not to the extent of fatalities anyway. Injuries happen with seating, I’ve been pushed forward in a celebration towards a seat in front of me shin high and toppled over it head and hands first and to me that’s worse than taking a step forward on to the next step. With seating one step forward has to be a massive leg up and over ( which only the very tall can do easily ) or you topple forwards. I hate it. Anyway it wasn’t terracing that killed those people it was the coppers hitting people back from the top of the fence with their batons as they were trying to climb for their lives. If you took that situation again with everything the same except seats not terracing the end result would have been the same.

Policing far from perfect but definitely improved but tragic it took such loss of life. Coincidental that we’ll be up that way today in an all seater ... stood up for much of the time no doubt!

I've signed the petition and hope all Gasheads do as we need all options open for the new stadium. Safe standing works perfectly well at Celtic Park so let's have it South of the border
