There is a goverment database of aerial phots of the UK from 1926 onwards and it has been made available to the public. britainfromabove.org.uk/It is a seachable database. This picture shows the Stapleton Gas works and Eastville football ground, for anyone who ever wondered why we are called Gasheads, well the picture says it all. Attachment Deleted

Not convinced that is Eastville Stadium in 1926 - the South Stand wasn't built until the 30's. The stand looks newish so I'd say late 30's. Nice picture though and great site.

Oddly enough last night I went to the local village hall where there was a speaker about Ariel photography and he was from the Welsh section of Britain from above and it was a wonderful evening and it's a site well worth visiting for those interested

The South Stand was built in 1923 replacing a 300 seater wooden construction built in the 1890's when the ground was used by Bristol Harlequins RFC.

I thought that the South Stand was constructed in 1924. It was the original 'Totalisator' and terracing that was put up in 1935

Wow two full length stands Nah - one was a corrugated black tin shed - bit like Twerton - until they half built the North Stand. You're right though, the last time we had a stand that ran the full length of the pitch was the old wooden south stand at Eastville - built eighty odd years ago - Happy Days!!!

What's all this talk of Rovers building new stands? Ah Eastville where I spent many happy times but had to leave matches early to get back to Totterdown for my paper round.
