Now the season is over, what is everyone’s overall judgement on the players this season?
Slocombe - Unsure why DC dropped him for part of the season. Fairly reliable and reassuring and occasionally pulls out a top save. 7
Leads - Been injured for a while but I would like to see him back. Always a threat going forward, needs to work on his defending. 6.5
Brown - Sad to see him go, a true gas ledgend. Not his best season but I still felt throughout the season he was our best left back choice. 6.5
Lockyer - Started the season a bit poorly, but has formed a great partnership with Craig and has led the team well, hence some of the comebacks we have pulled off. 7.5
Burn - Just awful. Don’t know why we bought him only time I saw him was at Bradford and was more a hinderence than help. Glad to see him go. 1
Sweeney - Don’t know what happened to him. Certainly not the player we had last season. 4
Sercombe - Player of the season IMO. Ran our attacks in a lot of games and we really missed him when he was injured. Bonus we got him off Oxford. 8.5
OC - Been consistent, never outstanding though. Doesn’t really contribute to attacks but still a fairly solid Midfielder. 6
Ellis - Another contender for player of the season. Was our only decent striker apart from Telford who rarely started. Stepped up and had his best season yet. 8
Nichols - I think he has some quality in there, just hasn’t shown it. Clearly not the right player for our system. 5
Lines - Another one of the leaders, has been consistent and chipped in with important goals. Sometimes gives the ball away in promising positions but one of our better midfielders. 7
James Clarke - Been injured for most of the season, but competent from what he has played. Not much more than a utility man. 6
Broadbent - What a find! Adds the needed physicality and for a first professional season, has handled it all really well. 7.5
Broom - Sounds like he was OK at Eastleigh but not much to report back from us. Not surprised he has gone, will end up in the conference. 5
Telford - Only frustration is he didn’t play more. A bright young talent who we should make a move for in the summer. 7
Moore - Absolutely useless until about the last 8 games, where he suddenly became a decent option. Still not surprised he has been released tho, we need better options if we want to be in the top half. 6
Smith - Looks a little shaky but seems like an OK keeper, very happy if he is our backup option. 6
Parts - Surprise package this season. Worked hard every game and probably our best right back option. Provides a good atttack and defence balance and can cover in midfield or centre back. 7
Mensah - Another decent looking young talent. Hopefully get a good chance in the first team next season. 6
Sinclair - Missed him when he was injured. Not the same quality as other players but makes up for it with his work rate. Want him fit next season. 7
Craig - Fantastic signing. Has helped lead the team and always willing to get stuck in. 8
Bennet - A good Bodin replacement, shocked Pompey just let him go. One of our most skillful players and took control in attack when Sercombe was out. 8
Gaffney - Good first half of the season. Absolute sh**e for the second half. Got to be the most useless impact sub I have ever seen. 5
Russe - Another bright talent, who looks like an exciting midfielder. 6.5
Mayonaise - Apparently he has been OK at Swindon and looks like another decent backup option, and also a young talent. 7
Kelly - Looked really talented when he made his debut, haven’t seen much tho. Definitely one to look out for though. 6.5
André - So calm for the little cameo he played, supported by the crowd. 6.5
Bhagdadi - Looked skillful in the few parts he has played, hopefully get more game time next season. 6.5
DC - Another stable season, and hopefully we can hold on to him. Maybe also needs to try and control expectations more, some idiots think we should be a promotion chasing side. 7.5
Gasheads - Honestly I think support hasn’t been great this season. Thatchers end quieter than usual, although our following away has been fantastic. 7.
