I was chatting to a bloke in work today (as you do), and he was telling me that him and his wife go on holiday to Bulgaria every year, in fact for the last twenty two years. Nothing too strange about that you may think. However, he goes to the same resort, the same hotel, and even stays in the same room, every bleedin year for twenty two years !
Now that is strange don't you think?

Used to work with a guy who did exactly the same thing for all his holidays.
Same weeks, same guest house/hotel every single year.
Said he enjoyed it, knew exactly what to expect and where everything was so his holiday was 100% stress and surprise free.

Imagine being married to the same woman for 22 years.

You only get seven years for murder nowadays.

Bulgaria - isn't that another EU country which gets billions of (our) EU money, and most of it gets lost in corruption and incompetence? I'm sure our mentally ill fellow Brits and full-time working, food bank visiting, Brits (for example) must be happy about that.

A long time ago though when it was still Communist. It was a really sad place then.

Not only been there, but worked there in a senior capacity in different locations. My Bulgarian colleague carried a revolver, and our driver was a moonlighting serving police officer. If anyone wants to get under the skin of a nationality, then work with them. It all comes out eventually. Stereotypes and all. Having said that, us everyday EU folk are pretty much all the same because we all shake our heads in despair at pretty much the same issues (eg politicians, corruption & crime, EU wastage, concerns about medical systems, where-will-it-all-end? etc etc).

Similar. I set up a subsidiary there. Our local director was a Bulgarian and bemoaned the government. I found the local professionals I dealt with pretty much as I found their equivalents in London. Honest with hopes and aspirations. What being members of the EU allowed us was to move freely, transact freely and have a common set of laws. It's called a free market. If funds accelerated the development of that country, as it did Ireland, then I am all for it.
