In my years as a Gashead, 1979-present I believe Nigel Martyn to have been the finest to have wore the goal keepers Jersey with Brian Parkin a very tight second. Just my own personal opinion

Just my own personal opinion Until the backpass rule came in, which sadly he never seemed to get grips with. Amazing how Gerry sold a 1 million keeper (the first I think?) and got Parkin for free (in part exchange?) who then went on to be a key part of our championship winning side. Loved him showing us his ar*e on request (did I just say that?).

The back pass rule came in in 1992 so I take it you mean Brian Parkin was the one affected by the change which I would agree with. Rick Sheppard was the best I've seen until Nigel Martyn, then Martyn Thomas.
So
1. Nigel Martyn 2. Rick Sheppard 3. Martyn Thomas 4. Jim Eadie .....1,721st Larrie Taylor!!!! In my opinion that is!!!

Always thought Timmy Carter was as good. Don't remember the last time we had two such good keepers. Jim Eadie and Dick Shepard?

Yes, I meant Parkin. Was immense for us until then. It was quite a fundamental rule change for any keeper who had learnt his trade under the old rules (he can’t have been the only one to struggle at that time). Think we were still in what is now the championship?

Soon after we sold Nigel Martyn to Palace ( The first £1M keeper) we played Palace in the cup (believe it was the league cup evening match) . Remember the gas singing "Nigel give us a goal" as we were well and truly beaten.

I was a youngster when I saw Martin Thomas so don't remember too much about him. Nigel Martyn was the best keeper I've seen at Rovers, followed by Brian Parkin.
The worst? Cashley was rubbish, as was Luke Daniels and Sam Walker. But Lee Nichols just shades it. Terrible goalie.

Obviously you didn't see the the one and only game Michel Keipers played for Rovers away at Bournemouth. My God it was comical. The biggest cheer he got was when he managed to kick the ball into the field of play and not send it out for a throw in.

Only time we played Palace in that era was in the Zenith Data Systems Cup 18 Dec 1990 Crystal Palace 2 v 1 Bristol Rovers That was 11 years after our last league games against then
