He splits opinion on this forum, although I doubt that thew few dozen or so who regularly contribute on here are particularly representative of Gashead opinion.
For me, Lockyer is a quality defender who reads the game very well, is brave and slowly maturing into a leader after a hesitant start with the armband. I did think he played better paired with a big centre half but his performances alongside Tony Craig towards the end of last season were exceĺlent too.
200+ games at 22 tells its own story. If we want to progress, he'd be a player I'd want us to build our side around.

Heard a few rumours lately that Tom Lockyer is on our centre back recruitment list. Our first choice seems to be Callum Connolly from Everton but it's proving difficult to do. Do you think he's Championship standard and can he play any positions other than centre back? Cheers. I can understand the interest. Still a very young player (at least 10 years ahead of him) - captain of his club - first name on the team sheet every week - over 200 appearances - a model pro - a full Welsh International - a nice guy with no 'edge' - still willing to learn - a bargain at anything under £2 million.

If we got more 250k for him I would be shocked. We don't know how to negotiate..But you are right if he is that highly rated we should commamd a good few for him. Would like to think club have offered another year or 2 onto what he has remaining.

We can only go by the opinions of the professional coaches who manage Tom day by day. he has played over two hundred games and is club captain at a very young age,he is consistently selected for the Welsh squad,( who incidentally done a lot better than England at the last major championship,!)by coaches of the caliber of Chris Coleman and now Ryan Giggs, so the lad must have qualities that some on this forum dont see, which is prob why they be posting on here and not in demand as football coaches!he could be yours for a couple of million quid and would go with our blessing, sure Bodin will come good next season, so good luck and thanks for helping to derail the dream of the other 'massive' club in our city(their misguided opinion of themselves, nobody elses!)

PS Got any young potential strikers who would benefit from dropping down a division ! He's not young footballing-wise but Eoin Doyle is for sale. Horrendous at Championship level but can obviously bag at L1 level. Would cost a few hundred k though.

We had three players for every squad vacancy on our list last season...had to write a couple of new lists!

I'm a big Lockyer fan and would want to build our team around him. However, if we think that any League 1 centre half would command a £2m price fee, we may be being slightly optimistic!
I would have thought that £500k-£750k would be absolutely top end. That's no reflection on our so called weakness in negotiating, but takes into account his position. As a general rule strikers attract big fees, not defenders.

Preston have just signed Jordan Storey from the division below for a fee of about £750,000 and only made his first Football League start in February. Ezri Konsa has just moved to Brentford from this division for a fee reported to be £2.5 million.

Lockyer is an important player for us - I don’t think we should underestimate his presence in the dressing room.
For me the only thing game wise he needs to work on is his passing, the rest will come with experience.
Given his age, contract length and the fact he’s our captain, I’d be very disappointed if we accept anything less than £1,000,000.
But then again this is Bristol Rovers wouldn’t surprise me if we accepted 10% of that figure

Wales might be lacking in CB's but can anybody say somebody who's a Wales International isn't good enough for the Championship, although whether he's good enough, or at least as the potential, for a top 6 is another question. Well a 22 year old winger, who was part of there euro squad has just signed for FGR. So playing a few games for Wales, means nothing!
My dog was born in Swansea and I was half expecting a call up for her at some point...
