You would think by now people would now what DC does.
No marque signings but he gets hungry players who have been rejected elsewhere - Sincs, Taylor, Leds etc.
No doubt there will be several players on trial when the squad comes back next week any they will be given the chance like Bodin and Broadbent.
I would imagine that anyone who impresses will get the chance to go on the overseas trip like Russe and Broadbent did last year.

I agree that its good to get the best of the football scrap heap, but that really only gets you so far when it comes to ability, a lot of players are released because they do have their limitations in terms of ability, obviously DC is a man that likes to work on players and see's them as more a project rather than the finished article, but if we are to compete at the top end of this league then we need to dip in to waitrose for a couple of bits and bobs, Im happy for the majority of the meal to be bought at tesco as it serves a purpose but you cant keep relying on freebies to get where we want to be, we need accomplished players with football league pedigree.

Pretty certain neither Russe nor Broadbent were trialists, plus I doubt TB quit the army if he didn't think he'd be a first team squad player last season. Regardless surely the Development Squad should be producing first team squad players this summer, like Kelly, Rolling, Hargreaves, Russe, if not, then will it ever produce them?

I think DC is like most managers who vary in the way they sign players.
We've signed players from trials and not from trials.
We've had successful signings from trials and unsuccessful signings from trials.
We've had successful signings not from trials and unsuccessful signings not from trials.

We’ve also had players from trials who have not been signed, successful or unsuccessful. Think we’ve also had players who have actually been on trial.......🤔

Its just a shame that despite the optimism that came with the new owners we are still having to sniff around the football dustbins. Thats the reality and one we are used to but i regret letting myself think we were going to become a bigger club.
As long as we have DC im confident we can survive in league 1. The new recruitment appointments should hell also.

It's always good to look at trialists as it's a win-win situation in my book, if they impress you try to sign them, if not, you say thanks and good bye.
There are a number of players I reckon would be worth a closer look where possible, for either the first team or development squad.
Marco Hödl (USK Anif), Davide Lorusso (Trastevere), David Yeboah (ACR Messina), Kyle Turner (Stranraer), Dylan Vassallo (Warrington Town), Luke Daly (Droylsden), Tom Hill (Wolves Sporting), Nicolae Carnat (free agent), Alex Brown (Sheffield FC), Sonny Dullaway (Hastings United), Kevin Hayes (Stockton Town), Rhys Murrell-Williamson (St Albans City), Alex Curran (Colne), Ben O'Hanlon (Darlington), Karol Wengrzik (Dereham Town), Jake Embery (Herne Bay), Josh Kelly (Walton Casuals/Maidenhead Utd), Jack Barham (Greenwich Borough), Travis Gregory (Greenwich Borough), Owain Jones (Merthyr Town), Sam Smart (Basingstoke),Josh March (Alvechurch), Tyler French (AFC Sudbury), Joe Leesley (Harrogate Town), Josh Smile (Chippenham Town), Jordan Neil (Spalding United), Connor Tighe (Burgess Hill Town).
Edit: Jack Barham has joined Barnet.

Broadbent played a few games on trial before it was announced we had signed him. That is a different Lewis Hall. The trialist we had was Australian and played for Heidelberg United in the National Premier Leagues Victoria, which is basically the 2nd tier in Australia.

Thought Nichols was supposed to be last seasons marque signing, Sercombe was no reject. Upson i wouldn't class as a reject either.

The new recruitment appointments should hell also. At least the owners appear to have a strategy in terms of getting a good quality backroom staff and a clear emphasis on building a pathway to the 1st team via youth and development squad football. They have also supported the manager in bringing partington, sercombe, nichols, bennett, craig, mensah, matthews and ed upson to the squad in recent times. Sercombe, craig, nichols and bennett will all be on good salaries in my view. If the club can succeed with this policy i will find it more satisfying than just throwing millions of pounds at the whole thing but i understand many dont feel that way.
