Only one home game, and that the very last one, is that to give the new pitch as long as possible to bed in? Yep

Bristol Rovers Development squad got the club's pre-season off to a positive start with a 2-0 win at picturesque Cheddar FC.
The Gas Development manager Chris Hargreaves used the opportunity to give the club's new signing Theo Widdrington his non-competitive debut in the blue and white quarters and he did not disappoint.
The man, who was released from Portsmouth this summer and joined as a free agent on Monday, looked a class above during his 40 minutes on the pitch.
He played in a holding midfield position but was willing to make surging runs forward, and picking some lovely passes, the best of which saw him switch play from left to right with a 50 yard diagonal to an impressive trailist on the right wing.
The new man was the creative hub of the side he has been training with for just a week in the first half.
Widdrington also had the best chance of the first half, taking the ball from a well worked short corner routine he pushed it onto his right foot and tried to curl the ball inside the right post from the edge of the area - only a fine save from the home goalkeeper kept the game scoreless.
And that was how it stayed going into half time, with neither side significantly threatening the goal. Although the Cheddar striker should have perhaps done better with a one-on-one chance he had with Pirates stopper Alexis Andre Jr, pushing the effort wide.
The game was played at a decent pace considering the 28 degree sun beating down on the players, which saw them stop for four drinks breaks during the 90 minutes.
The opening goal of the game just three minutes into the second half - a long ball forward saw the replacement striker, who was one of the trialists, and the new Cheddar goalkeeper in a footrace to see who got there first and it is the Rovers man who won, poking it around the keeper to score.
If Widdrington was the star of the first half, Luke Russe was the man who stood out in the second. His energy without the ball lifted the side and more often than not saw him quickly win the ball back in central midfield. He was also a threat on the attack, passing well and going close with a shot on the half volley in the second period.
There were plenty of positive performances from the half a dozen trialists on display as well, with good showings from the first half right back, and right winger, while the two second half strikers got the goals.
The best was saved to last as Rovers doubled their lead with three minutes remaining, with another trialist smashing home with a pure hit from the edge of the box after it was headed out to him from a Pirates corner.
A fine way to start pre-season with Rovers Development back in action on Tuesday night against Street.

The best chance of the first half fell to the cheddar striker (no 9?). How he missed and slipped the ball past the post I'll never know.
Agree with the rest of the report though. Widdrington and Russe the star men in either half.

You can obviously see why Russe has been given a debut for the first team already, very lively and looked our best player when he came on. I was also impressed with some of the trialists in the second half more so than in the first, the wingers especially, there was a notable improvement and I thought we played some good football at times.

About 80% of the match was played in Cheddars half. Surprised no-one mentioned the tractors.

Yeah, Morgan certainly looks a unit. I think we got him last summer after his release from Swansea (?). Spent a bit of time on loan at Yate and Frome last season. We did play some decent stuff at times in the 2nd half considering the heat and we hit the post a couple of times. How that shot from one of the trialist stayed out I'll never know...lobbed the keeper and hit both posts before going wide!

A load went past and then the 2nd lot went by with one carrying a trailor with loads of England fans and flags etc.

Any clues or hints at who the trialists are?

The U18's are also in pre-season action away against Chipping Sodbury Town this evening. Free to get in.
Should be a good test as they have some good young players themselves, particularly striker George Box.

Good workoùt for the development squad lads tonight, although there was a gulf in quality at times as the game finished 3-1 to W-s-M.
The best player for us was probably Russe again. He's a a very energetic little player and keeps things ticking over nicely with his passing and he also likes a tackle.
I thought for the first 25-30 minutes our number 7 looked quite good - a decent turn of pace, quick feet and showed a bit of skill, but faded after that. Similar for the number 11.
The best player on the pitch for me was number 9 Gethyn Hill for W-s-M. He held the ball up quite well, ran the channels and got a nice hat-trick...the last goal an absolute peach of a lob from the far right side of the box. Quality finish.
You can see why the lad has got 24 goals in 53 games for Weston, spent time at the Vardy Academy this summer and has represented Wales at U19 level. He looks like he could play at a higher level and at 23 there is still time.
Another player that caught my eye today and previously too, was the stocky number 8 Jarrad Welch. He has a nice touch and a good range of passing. Another one who has represented Wales at U19 level, the 19-year-old would be well worth the club monitoring.

Pirate, what was your view of the other non-trialists? Nobody particularly stood out last night if I'm honest. Weston are a good team for that level and it was always going to be difficult. Andre needs to work on his kicking, but he did make one excellent save low down. Hargreaves worked hard and was tidy enough in possession without causing too many problems. Ebbutt and Allen worked hard upfront without much luck against a decent CB partnership. Allen needs to focus all his effort and concentration on his game rather than arguing with the officials would be one observation. Not really much more I can say really as there wasn't anyone that really impressed.
