Maybe they should ‘monitor’ him a little more carefully because a right back he isn’t

Filled in as centre half due to injuries and played well so stayed there. I rate Tom very much and seems a great lad. However IMO he has a fault as centre half that he cannot overcome, his height he's too short at the higher levels of the league that he gets away with in the lower divisions. Same applies to Craig IMO where in his first two games he was at fault of letting taller strikers out jump him to score. Ideal left and right backs IMO with Meyayese and Broadbent in the middle

In my view TL offers nothing more at RB than Leads or Parts or even J Clarke.

Whilst agree with your sentiment Pirate, to be fair you are talking about the most talented centre backs of all time, who more than made up for their lack of stature by world class talent, and they were playing at a different time. Firstly I'm not sure TL has the talent that any of those had and so maybe his height is an issue. Secondly players seem to be be taller in general these days so I'm not sure how the players you mention would deal with modern players, many of whom are well over 6 feet tall.

Im not trying to compare the players by the way, just making the point that height isn't always necessary to be a good centre back. Puyol only retired 4 years ago and he coped against modern players well. Javier Mascherano is another player only 5ft 9in. He played 30 times as a centre back for Barcelona in 16/17 and didn't do too bad. Ivan Cordoba is another centre back in the modern era that coped ok too. He was 5ft 8in. I thought Craig and Locks handled Eaves well towards the end of the season and he's 6ft 5in.

I realise you are not comparing players and you are right in everything you say, all I meant is that the players you mentioned were helped by prodigious talent which made their stature less of an issue, I'm just not sure TL has that level of talent so as he moves up levels his height, or lack thereof, may become an issue and he may well end up at right back.

Sergio ramos is just about 6ft tall and he seems to cope pretty well. Its good players that win matches not big players. Northampton had massive defenders but for some reason got relegated. I watched tony craig mark the massive gillingham striker tom eaves this season and as far as i can remember he never lost a header against him. But by all means follow the fashion and demand big players all over the pitch.

The fact Forest apparently see Locks as right back not a CB, probably answers the question as to whether he's tall enough to ever be a quality CB! That could also explain why he struggled at times last season, CB is not is not ideal position.

He definitely ain’t a full back perhaps he’s a better central defender with a taller defender along side him. I don’t think he’s championship material league one at best at the moment.

So the correct way to judge a player is not to watch him for 200 games or follow his international career, but to read a blurb in a local paper?

Again, I'm not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that players like Ramos have a huge amount of talent which maybe mitigates their lack of height and that I'm not sure that Lockyer has that level of talent, ergo if he were to play at a higher level maybe he would have to do so in a different position. It seems Forest think that's the case, so are looking at him as a RB. If Harley is correct, and he's no RB then perhaps he's reached his level for now.

Does anyone else think TL's coaching and development has gone as far as it can do with a league one club?
For the sake of his own career, he may not get a better opportunity at this time in his life to progress and fulfill his potential with more time and money concentrated on his game and possibly expanding it?
It's not just about wages, it will inevitably enhance his international status too..
