Bristol’s two football clubs were charged over £300,000 for policing their games last season.
Avon and Somerset Police charged Bristol City £269,785 to attend football matches in 2017/18, while Bristol Rovers were billed £31,121, exclusive figures reveal.
That comes to a total of £300,906, according to data released by the police under the Freedom of Information Act.

However, we can also reveal that London’s nine Premier League and Championship clubs were charged just £442,091 COMBINED by the Metropolitan Police.
Under current rules, clubs are only obliged to pay for policing in the stadium and on their land, leading to the taxpayer picking up most of the bill.
