I was just on a West Ham forum (don't ask..!!) and they have a thread remembering football grounds that are no more, and Eastville was covered with quite a few pics that some might like to see; www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=171946&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=20Great thread altogether if you have time to go through it. I personally miss Oxford's old Manor Ground, even though I regularly saw us get beat there!

It's a bit sad looking at those pictures, They don't really convey the feeling of the ground. Particularly with a good crowd in or a night game. Also a shame how we ended up as tenants there with no opportunity to make something of the space we had. It's funny listening to people talk about us as a selling club or not investing in the club now. Our plight was pretty much sealed all those years ago when we sold that ground and the football world moved on without us. In fairness we're a long way forward from those desperate days of the mid eighties which I'm grateful for but I suppose to many it seems like acient history.
Looking at the ground today we have staggered slowly from tenants of a rugby ground in 96 to owners of something that doesn't look too bad when the sun shines or the lights are on. We've made progress but it's been slow.
We do have an opportunity though that hasn't come our way for so many years. A little tweaking of the pitch location, a stand by stand development and we could have a stadium us souls from the 70s only dreamt of. Admittedly those dreams were sometimes fueled by the artist at the evening post.
In five years time we could be lights years away from the desolate days of 86. Who knows, but I suppose that's why I'm still here after 44 years .

Proper old school ground. I remember a game in 2000 when we played some lovely stuff and Ellington and Cureton ripped then to shreds. I think Curo got a hat-trick that day.

Yeah I remember as a kid almost getting crushed just getting out of the place!! It was also a ground that was the beginning of the end for Brian Parkin, as it was the first ground he had to deal with the back-pass rule

My top 3 missed grounds would be;
Manor Ground, Oxford Gay Meadow, Shrewsbury The Dell, Southampton
I went to Eastville as a nipper but don't remember much of it if i'm honest.
Glad I managed to see Rovers play at Maine Road though, even if it was a 0-0'er!

Maine Road was class. That 0-0er contained one of the youngest Rovers sides in the modern era I believe. I liked the look of Millwall's old den, but never got chance to go there.

Although not quite the same as it's the same site and name is Stamford Bridge as was with cars parked behind the goal - including those old blue three wheeled disability cars !!!

.....I liked the look of Millwall's old den, but never got chance to go there. Count yourself lucky. I've been to some grounds with intimidating atmospheres, but the Den was just scary.

I'm just going from memory but wasn't that Mike Troughts full debut? 0-0 was a great result but shame I never got to celebrate a goal there. Much prefer the old Wembley as well, even though the new one is a lot luckier for the gas!

Really sad , brings back great memories spent many a Saturday afternoon or midweek night watching the boys and I never shop at ikea Agree, said i would never go into ikea but the other years some friends from devon were going and as to play happy families i went along, the strangest feeling ive ever had walking past the old supporters club and then trying to picture the tote etc. It really felt weird, i could hear the crowd and shutting my eyes i was 16 again and buzzing. What a ground we could have had there, but great memories.
