I will always remember that transfer deadline day back in Ian Atkins time when we brought the like of John Andersdon, Ali G and Bo H.
I remember going to the game after they signed and it was a real buzz at the Mem, I wonder what the atmosphere would be like now even if we could go?
To quote Mr Buckle I have lowered my expectations every year since, so now they are non-existent!

If we make bank off of Nicholson (2m+) then he would have recruited 2x million pound plus attackers so far with arguably more to come from the likes of Hanlan, Daly, Koiki
I know our season is looking terribly woeful - but defensive mistakes aside, we are still that mid table team... just with some money from JCH and more to come IMO.
Get relegated mind and we are all fooked... imagine a lot of these have relegation release clauses...

Cuz he is mint! and I reckon as the season plays out, his value will definitely be recognised and in the summer our phone will be red hot with offers. Do you not rate him?

It's a matter of public record that we "work two or three windows in advance". It's also a matter of public record we're in for a striker, and have missed out on at least two of our main targets. With that in mind, failure to secure a viable option would (in light of his transfer record) in any normal world at any normal club, make his position untenable.

He doesn’t negotiate the deals or specify what kind of player is needed, that falls on Tisdale and Starnes.

The fact that it is public record means that other teams are more likely to go... "oh you need a striker do ya... (ey mate stick a few 00's on that lads transfer cost yeah)" I think we had quite a few targets in mind and they all went elsewhere so far in this window. I also think that we have been cautious and learned a lesson or two from windows past (its all learning right?). Not sure what point I am trying to make to be honest but I think it's far too easy for us all to make assumptions (including me) when we know little of the ins and outs of this dark art that is recruitment and transfer windows. Why? He doesn’t negotiate the deals or specify what kind of player is needed, that falls on Tisdale and Starnes. What does he do then? Easiest job in the world - you aren’t actually accountable for anything and when your players fail to deliver you can blame it on the manager and get a promotion.

Acts as any head of recruitment would do, working to the managers requirements to draw up a list of potential targets that the club can pursue. Istm that most of our problems stem from poor recruitment choices made by the managers such as signing too many left backs, not enough strikers, focussing too much on Gnaduillet and Smith etc Widdrington doesn’t make those type of calls.

The manager tells him what kind of player he wants, what position, playing style etc. Tommy has a database full of players and he identifies targets that fit the brief. It's then up to the manager and the club who they sign. Simples.

I’m struggling here. It wasn’t so long ago that the forum was waxing lyrical about what a transfer window we had.
People have wanted Joe Day here for years and he showed enough for a champ team to take him. Signed gills captain and watched Steve Evans have a meltdown Got Oz from Charlton McCormick has impressed Snared Nicholson despite interest from his beloved hearts Got Westbrooke who played a significant part in Cov’s promotion Grant is a developing prospect in his first full season in Centre Mid Hanlan is a developing prospect in his first full season as a 9. Tutonda has shown enough to have been worthy of a free. Harries - jury very much out fair enough - may have been desperation trying to find a left footed CB. I don’t think he’s as bad as what some people say, but he’s got an awful lot to learn.
It’s not like we’ve signed journeyman here for a pay cheque. If you look at the above, and add in what we had in the building, that’s not a team who should be struggling for relegation. Once the players are recruited then it’s no longer up to TW to bring the best out of them.
Of course we need a striker, but how do we know what goes on and who we have been in for.
People have freedom of speech but people also need to have perspective, and get behind the club and not attack people who seem to want to be taking the club forward. .
Edit: sorry forgot JD - quality little player

How can being relegated w/o putting up much of a fight be taking the club forward? Surely there's a striker out there we can sign who's better than NLS standard Ayunga? If we don't sign one what happens if Hanlan is injured or has a totally barren spell? Little old Burton who had to let Clough leave in the summer are at least putting up a fight for survival we seem to being raising the while flag. Perhaps that's why the players seem to have lost interest again, they already knew we weren't going to sign a striker.

So we can sack him and just pay for a database then? We literally need a subscription to a scouting database?? Scouting databases are rudimentary and don’t consider how he would the player would fit in our system, their personality, recommendations from ex coaches etc. There is a reason why every club has either a chief scout or a head of recruitment. Even if we were going to use a database we would still need someone to sift through all the data to find players that match with what the manager is looking for.

Those "2 or 3 Windows ahead" should have us some decent signing in the National League South at this rate then.. 🤐
