FWIW, just because the deadline closes Thursday doesn't mean we can't still sign players either on loan or loan-to-buy... granted, we're cutting it fine already at this stage but still plenty of time for DC to strengthen the squad one way or another. "EFL clubs will still be able to sign players on loan up to August 31, 2018. They will also be able to sign players on loan with an option to agree a permanent transfer when the next window opens up to August 31." Plenty of time to get rushed into a slightly wrong fit, or pay over the odds to clubs who know we've sold players and have (a) money, (b) few strikers, and (c) little time left. I agree with not panicking but the system now means you REALLY do need to get things sorted earlier. Very few experienced players will be in this magical loan system . Younger players yes. But not older ones. Might pick up a few unicorns in there.

I did have my doubts about the transfer window being brought forward to a close earlier even though DC seemed happy with is. I'm even more worried after how this window has gone.
What's the excuse this time? Remember when Taylor went on the last day of the window, and "we didn't have time to replace him". Gaffney has been gone nearly 2 months.

Cannot beleive our summer transfer business has come down to this, selling our best player for well under his value (and *ing instalments at that), only to be waiting on Walsall’s 3rd choice striker to decide between us and Coventry. You genuinely couldn’t make it up. Our Summer transfer business has not come down to this! The bulk of our transfer business was done weeks ago, and it's been pretty good. What it's come down to is replacing two strikers, given that one of our signings is a forward maybe one permanent one loan. As for Harrison being our best player, not convinced by that, and he's not exactly prolific. Wasn't that long ago people were slating Harrison, and whilst I agree he's improved, he's not Rickie Lambert. I'd love for us to have signed a couple of quality strikers by now, and I know we need at least one in the door, but I don't think our whole summer transfer business comes down to this one thing.

If we fail to bring in goals before the deadline we will be in for a very tough season.

Valid points but at the same time there's effectively still another three and a half weeks to sort this striker mess out, as opposed to potentially rushing into throwing money at Walsall's third-choice striker now because he's umming and arring about joining us or Coventry. Likewise, as well as loan options there's still free transfers too - granted I agree that we REALLY needed this sorted earlier in the window but we haven't so instead of rushing around now I'd rather we were more measured in searching for another striker instead of taking the first youngster available on loan (might be nothing wrong with Tyrese Campbell, just seems to have been plucked from thin air).
As for Saturday, just play bloody Reilly from the start...

Well done gaelgas, summed it up. The frustration of the manager on the BBC forum last Monday over the striker situation was then trumped through the week when we didn’t sign anyone and then the debacle of the Bakayoko situation just seemed to be the straw that pushed a lot on here to meltdown. It just seemed to make the situation a lot worse. Unfortunately the forums don’t seem to be helping the club to portray a positive vibe. Did Healey and then Bakayoko get put off by some of the posts and posters on here? I dont know but it can’t help. They need to be stronger if it did but players and agents are very different nowadays. Whatever, UTG!

Aye I was a regular poster on the old forum many moons ago... finally have a ST again so thought I'd get back on here (plus it kills valuable office time!).
Yeah the lad scored 20-odd goals for St.Mirren last year, clearly knows where the goal is. Many on here (and me included though I've obviously not voiced this yet) would like to see us take a chance on players that have bagged plenty of goals in non-league, well right here we have someone who scored consistently last year in the Scottish second-tier, why can't he be the answer?

We have a very weird bunch of fans. FFS! I mean what is the fuss.... Man gets two job offers and listens to both before making a decision..... oh my lord.... there are some serious melts out there.
End of day player has to do what is best for him. If that is coming here to improve his career then great, if not, never mind and we look elsewhere......

No I agree, he looks a good signing. Will have to see more of him in front of goal to judge his finishing abilities, but from the little I have seen, he will at least work hard and pressurise the opposition. Also has one hell of a leap on him.

We don't know what part he or his agent played in trying to broker interest from another club. He is obviously going to do what is best for him but it does make us look foolish at the end of the day. And yeah I'm sure if it were Ronaldo everybody on here would be waiting to see who he chooses, the fact that it is a player deemed surplus to requirements at Walsall trying to hold us and Coventry over a barrel means we have much less patience and the situation is going to wind people up. It just seems an all-round bad transfer from a Rovers point of view, especially given how it is playing out.

What makes it worse is that it's fully grown adults with these opinions.

What makes it worse is that it's fully grown adults with these opinions. Adults, physically fully grown.... mentally? Well, that is questionable!
I know I would look at both options, especially if I was approsched by both parties so they were the ones wanting me!!!

Amazing isnt it. Some people just live in a weird reality when it comes to football. Two job offers, so way up which is best. Just like anybody elses job
