Ok so you look at tom and his size and think yep centre back. Not for me! Watching toms youth, army and non league career on video he excelled most when running forward with the ball and attacking teams at pace! Being able to get in crosses, one twos, having shots, taking free kicks. He’s not by nature that commanding still strong ball winning defender - he wants to travel at pace and get about the pitch trying to influence the game but of course he’s a good lad that takes orders and will do his best to be what he can in the professional game but someone needs to do this lad a favour and put faith in him in a different position. He’s not a centre back! He’s just tall and ripped! We need a left back atm - give tom a go with licence to get forward! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what we find! UTG!

UTG! it seems in his last season in non league football he played equally at CH & LB so to suggest he's only playing at CH on club orders seems nonsense. Although you do wonder why DC's playing right footed JC at LB, when Broadbent is a left footer who can clearly play LB!!

Better, professional judges than any of us would appear to disagree with you.

I'd be happy if either of those toms replaced the other tom as a striker! Not this again!

Rather Broadbent at left back to Craig and rather have him at centre back to Craig

Rather Broadbent at left back to Craig and rather have him at centre back to Craig I think you’d rather have Broadbent in goal rather than slocombe or Smith wouldn’t you?

I have been thinking the same for some time now.

I would certainly give him a tryout at Left back, try him in a micky mouse cup match. Added advantage of that is when defending corners it would mean an extra centre half.

Bennet is not a centre forward, not unless he turns out for Gnomes United

Ive suggested a few times that he could well be a defensive midfielder because there if he makes mistakes it is not the end of the world and he would add strength in there and is a more than capable passer of the ball. I have been shot down a few times but if it hasn't been tried how do we know? Certainly at centre half he needs a season on loan at League 2 level. For me he has been pushed in too quick however I really hope that he proves me totally wrong. It will be far from the first time!!

Last season no-one was saying Broadbent wasn’t ready. He had the odd bad game but a look through the player ratings threads would highlight that he had many very good performances. He had a storming game just before Craig arrived and many were up in arms that he lost his place. Yes, he is relatively inexperienced at this level and still learning but I do believe he’s up to it. To a certain extent you do have to let players find their way if you think they have the ability, even if they make the odd mistake or lose their form for a bit. Our problem may be not that any of our defenders are not up to it individually, but that we don’t have one particular pair that has the right combination. They may all be better alongside a more physical and aerial presence.

Regardless it still begs the question why we're playing a right footed, normally right sided player, at left back when we've got what looks like an half decent left footed left back sat on the bench? With the added bonus at corners etc at either end he give us a bit extra height we desperately seem to need.

Along similar lines , I’ve always thought Tom Nichols would make a great goal keeper. Unless it’s tried how will we ever know ?

Pathetic criticism of Tom Nichols in a thread which is totally unrelated for Christ’s sake give it a rest Pathetic criticism of something that was a light hearted joke and tom Nichols was picked at random... I could easily have said Chris Lines. Get a grip.
