A very good addition to the squad, the type of player we've wanted for ages. His power energy and hold up play must surely help the smaller, but technically gifted players in the squad and particularly upfront. I have a feeling he will gel with Reilly but I really hope Nicholls does well too this season. Stef's running back for repossession is awesome and several attacks were started in this way yesterday.Big success for me so far.

Agree, I actually feel he will contribute more to our season than Ellis, I suspect he will be suspended by end of October though and then again in February

Yeh he looks similar type of player to Ellis to me but he’s clearly got a better footballing brain, he sees what’s going on around him and with players like Sercombe, Mathews and Clarke looking to get forward to the edge of the box and shoot that’s definitely a very good thing.

He is a great buy, a poor mans Diego Costa gives 100 % must be a nightmare to play against, has a ruthless streak, a top buy ,glad Baka went to Cov, all worked out splendidly well. In DC we trust.

Probably better than the lad who went to Coventry time will tell he’s certainly looking the business so far. Baka scored for Coventry yesterday although it was a penalty and they don’t count so he’s still yet to get off the mark 🙄

I love Ellis. And I really hope he does well for Ipswich and ends up going to the Prem.
Payne is missing some of the attributes that Ellis had but he has a strikers IQ. Works hard coming backwards, but stays central when we have the ball. That is huge for us. Too often- Ellis would be fantastic in the channels but we’ve needed a striker that likes the penalty sport for ages.

I actually think DC's transfer dealings could turn out to be an amazing bit of business, but early days yet. Personally I was well happy to get close on 1 mill for Ellis and Rory. To me Reilly looks useful, first impressions.

I like Ellis too and was very impressed with his better attitude last season but I’ll be amazed if he makes it in the Premier league. Honestly I don’t even see him as championship standard but I wish him well and hope he does well.

Really like the look of Payne so far - brings a hell of a lot to the team.
Still think there’s more to come from him once the team have fully gelled, too.

Not much point in having a discussion after 20 games when we know the facts, saying his signing is good or bad as we will know that won't we?

Looking forward to seeing him play for the first time tomorrow. Seems like he's giving us that presence up front that we've so badly missed. Would have been good to have kept Ellis and played them together!
Note to self:- Arrange annual holiday for as soon as the schools break up next summer, to avoid missing the start of the season!

Not much point in having a discussion after 20 games when we know the facts, saying his signing is good or bad as we will know that won't we? In your op it dosnt mention potential effect on the team, instead it states hes just what we need etc. I just think its a bit early to be blowing trumpets about him. If after 20 games he still looking good we can still have the discussion because whatever he does some will say hes rubbish. Just like they did with matty taylor and ellis. Anyway great start at rovers for stephan payne.

From what I've seen, looks a quality signing. Big, strong, fast, chases back, can score, can hold the ball up.
I'm sure with DC's encouragement and guidance he'll get even better.
