What has happened to him? He has had an awful start to the season. He has really carried on his form from that Exeter friendly. Is his confidence shot? He kept hoofing it yesterday and has been pretty powder puff in the air for a guy of his size. I don't often criticise DC but he was in the form of his life before he got dropped for Craig? Why was he dropped so suddenly?!

I’d keep them Center half’s and drop Craig bring ina left back on loan. Lockyer not good enough for this level and Craig’s not impressed me at all. How many games have we won since he arrived ? Not many.

I know it won't happen because of 'financial constraints', but we really do need a new dominant CB. Been saying that for ages now. Probably a couple of full backs too. Gonna be a long old season.

I can't believe they are told to hoof it out but it happens when you feel under pressure all the time. We don't clear our lines effectively when the ball is crossed into our area and subsequently we are under pressure from the second ball. When you have a keeper behind you that isn't good with crosses & you never know where he is going to kick it, it compounds the issue.

The constant resorting to long ball is imo because our centre midfielders never show for the ball or drop deep to go and get it.
Aside from one shot in the second half I can’t recall O.Clarke even touching the ball - it’s like he goes into hiding and now and again pops up with a shot or big tackle.
Upson tried a few long balls that flew into the DAS stand, I suppose at least he was trying to get on the ball, but he doesn’t add any quality to the side.
I don’t by any stretch of the imagination rate Sinclair (Quality wise, I’m not doubting his effort and commitment) but as soon as he’s back I’d try him and Sercombe in the middle if we’re going to persist with 442.

Think this is the most important position at a club. Get a good one & it breeds confidence throughout the team. We need to remember that although Broadbent is not a kid, he is new to Football League & therefore will be inconsistent.

I actually think TB is our best CB - however he has started poorly this season.
Looking forward to the LWB we signed to come back from injury as he’s very highly rated. That should then add some competition for the CB places and hopefully some improvement.
As soon a SS is back I’d loce him to take the arm band and actually lead by example - boy oh boy do we need him right now

With him in the side Blackpool have only conceded 3 goals in 4 games and have kept 2 clean sheets. Yesterday he made a "vital last-ditch block to deny Ross Sykes a free header at the back post" according to the Blackpool Gazette.

Agree with this we need a Steve Elliot type but assuming this doesn't happen I think we need 2 things. Firstly we need to stop the cross going into the box in the first place. No matter who you have as a centre half the law of averages says eventually an opposition player will get on the end of a cross. The goal yesterday was a prime example we gave them an age to pick a cross yes we defended it poorly but that doesn't happen if we stop it at source. 2nd a goalkeeper that will come & claim those crosses that do come in, I dont think its any coincidence our defence tightened up with Lumley in goal as he was happy to come & claim crosses. Hopefully a LB, CB & keeper will come in before Sat I fear it will only be a keeper unless someone else departs.

I am not up to speed with players in the way you are Pirate, but that does sound the type of CB we need. I don't know whether our head of recruitment role is effective or whether it is & we find it difficult for other reasons.

It would be interesting to work out what went wrong with our defence when we scored, TB won an header on our left then hit the deck, before the ball found itself on our right with Rodman having to try and mark two players including striker Theo Robinson, how did he manage to find himself out wide without his marker, who I assume was supposed to be JC? I can't recall Southend's no 9 doing much yesterday so TB must have kept him quiet and surely that's his job. OC is the one who baffles me, as he hit the long pass for Serc's run which gave Nichols his chance and also had our only decent effort of the 2nd half but apart from that I can't recall him doing anything else of note for the whole game.
