Smith 3 - a rabbit in the headlights-admittedly not helped by our crowd cheering an unchallenged fielding of a high punt as if he'd made a worldie. He's become a car crash with gloves on and needs to be taken out of the firing line for a spell Clarke J 6 -definitely culpable for their first goal by giving his man the freedom of Loftus Road but after that bucked his ideas up and put his body on the line at some cost to himself. Also linked up usefully down the right with Matthews when attacking. However, defensively they did not dovetail and it was always our weaker flank. Lockyer 8 this was the Locks that forced his way into the Welsh squad and was talked about as commanding a decent fee. His passing was excellent (am I really saying that about TL?) and he wasn't always choosing the easy pass either. Time and again Locks intercepted their high punts and also stopped several promising attacks that had bypassed Upson. The subbing of JC meant a switch to right back for him where he was steady rather than spectacular. Craig 6 showed some experience and positional sense, also showed a lack of speed and height...but we know that don't we? Kelly 7 thought he'd be the weak link in our back line that QPR would make a beeline for but in fairness to him and Rodman they had the left pretty much sewn up ...so much so that the two of them, Ollie, Kyle and SPayne could indulge in space making triangle passes around their right back. Matthews 6 ... probably an 8/10 going one way and a 4/10 going the other. Still it is early days and he can take some positives from his first game back after the enforced two game break Clarke O 8.5 my MOTM box to box performance of some quality tonight, felt he and Locks were two players who really didn't deserve to be on the losing side. QPR tried to play through our midfield many times. OC stopped them and set up our own counters, his compadre in the centre wasn't quite so dominant. Upson 5 yes a marked improvement on Saturdays performance but he's still the weakest link in our centre and QPR knew it. Persistent bugger though and although he was running on empty for the last quarter of an hour he still made an effort to drive forward which was eventually rewarded with a consolation goal Rodman 7 much better showing from him linked play well, rarely left Kelly exposed and created some dangerous moments. Bennett 7 another looking much better than Saturday - an effective no.10 performance that had him unlocking the QPR defence several times only for us to blow the chance or give the goalie catching practice SPayne 7 made sure the QPR defence knew they'd been in a game, much more of a goal threat than Saturdays tame showing.
Broadbent 6 they scored one whilst we were still reorganising, then Broadbean took charge and even launched a few counter thrusts Nichols 7 probably made the biggest impact of the three subs - he was getting in behind them. Reilly 6 might've had a soft penalty towards the end, looked bright
Ref 7 did not notice him much so he must have been good, played advantage well... and brought play back when there wasn't any. Crowd 8 started loud, dampened by the two early goals then found our voices again when we had our best spell of the game either side of halftime. Humour towards the end with a rendition of "How sh*t must you be? We scored a goal" QPR 7 make no mistake, this was very much a second string R's XI that whupped our asses, competent and with sufficient quality to dispatch us easily enough despite some scares along the way.
Think this might be the first game I've been to where an opponent's substitution involved taking a Chair off!
Edit: just watched the Sky Highlights back and it is clear the third goal emanates from our left hand side ..so that wasn't quite as sewn up as I'd suggested! My excuse is down to the seating farce. I'm not sure why it is that some Gasheads object so vehemently to sitting in the seat they have bought but throughout the first half there were loads of standing Gasheads in the aisles because their seats were occupied. I presume that at halftime the stewards attempted to rectify the problem one seat at a time because with more than an hour played a young couple appeared and ousted two middle aged gents in front of me quoting "new seating rules" (ie sit where your ticket tells you). Thus my view of exactly how the third goal came about was impaired and I just caught the tail end of "beanpole" Smith's free header past "rabbit" Smith.

Smith 4 could have done better with the first (QPR's first shot on target)
J. Clarke 3 skinned alive by the number 20 Lockyer 5 as a CB 6 as a RB Craig 5 Kelly 5
Matthews 5 Upson 4 O. Clarke 5.5 Rodman 5
Bennett 3 poor poor miss Payne 3 his game has fallen off a bit in last 3 games and was rightly subbed off
Subs: Broadbent 3 poor defending for the 3rd Nichols 3 burst into box late on and was always looking to pass it rather than go for goal himself (which a striker with confidence would have done) Reilly 4
Crowd home crowd very poor in numbers and support for team 2 away crowd good in numbers but subdued after early goals 6 Ref 5 We were great between the penalty areas but very week in both boxes which is a recipe for a relegation battle. The team that started must have had 1500 and 2000 first team appearances between them but I bet the have less than a 100 goals between them, just not sure we have the fire power to stay up let alone progress this year!

Smith: 3. Sorry, but at fault for the 2nd and might have done better with the 1st. Flaps at crosses and gives no confidence to those in front of him. Hoping there is a change on Saturday but even if there is, Bonham is under pressure to perform or we are in big trouble.
J Clarke: 5. Their winger had him on toast and James was guilty of getting nowhere near him for the first goal, another example of us being easy to score against. Stuck to his task though and he won't come up against many players of that quality in our league. Lockyer: 7.5. Excellent throughout. He will come in for criticism because like Craig, he's a target for some, but he had a really good game and looked every inch the player we know he can be. Craig: 7. Like Locks, did nothing wrong. Tidied up a lot as the last man and looks much more at home in his beat position. Kelly: 6.5. Did well on his first start. Stuck to his task and managed to get forward well too (and should have scored). I haven't seen it back but may have been at fault in not preventing cross for the third goal.
Matthews: 5. Quiet night and failed.to get into the game. Upson: 6. Better than Saturday and grew into the game. Never gave up and scrapped for everything. Would still like to see him take responsibility on occasion rather than just give it to Ollie. Clarke: 8 (MoM). Really good performance and is showing aigns of recapturing the form of two seasons ago. Everything went through him and as well as his usual bite showed a creative aspect to his game that I wasn't convinced he had. Rodman: 5.5. Missed an absolute sitter that looked easier to score. Did little going forward although did help Kelly through his debut.
Bennett: 7. Tricky and a thorn in their side at times but guilty of a bad miss in the 2nd half and shot straight at keeper in first. Not a striker. Payne: 7. Never stopped working, but does he have goals in him?
Broadbent: 5. Appeared to be at fault for the third but it was at the far end so difficult to be sure. Has struggled this season. Nichols: 6. Nice touches but didn't impact the game. Reilly: 6. As Nichols.
Ref: 8. Good. Hardly noticed him. QPR: 6. This is the worrying bit. They weren't very good, with the exception if their excellent winger (no.20). Crowd: 5. Good numbers but with the occasional exception, poor in support of our team. The "how sh** must you be" chant was a disgrace and surely does nothing to raise our team, which as fans is our role. Save the criticisms and debate for the pub. Sorry, but it's true.

Knocked the ball about nicely in midfield, but putting it into their net, or keeping it out of ours? Forget it.

Yes, it was clear as day in that game. A game where we played the better football but the opposition were far more clinical than us. Our defence that day was a shambles and still is a shambles.

Smith 4 - doesn't inspire confidence
J. Clarke 4 - up against a good winger with no support. Lockyer 6.5 - thought it was his best game for a while - passing better Craig 5- struggled Kelly 6 - did well for a first game
Matthews 4 - disappointing after his performance at Wycombe Upson 3.5 - was a big problem. Lack of pace meant he lost his man on many occasions putting defence under pressure. Numerous errors. O. Clarke 5.5 - tried hard but lacked quality and too many errors Rodman 5 - poor, has the talent though, did not help much defensively
Bennett 5.5 - mixed performance of good and bad. Poor finishing Payne 5 - some effort but lacked quality on the night
Subs: Broadbent 4.5 - did not add anything when he came on. Looked shaky Nichols 5 - no impact Reilly 4.5 - no impact
Crowd 6 - good attendance by the Gas but not much to shout about Ref 7 QPR 7 - very clinical. A few very good players.

But LPGas' point is correct. We are light years behind City and the rest of the Championship at the moment.
In a one-off game, anything can happen, but we would not survive in that league and until we are in a position to do so sustainably, which means getting it right off the pitch, we are better off in this league waiting for the off field stuff to catch up.

Results in and Ollie Clarke was Man of the Match with a score of 6.95.
This was Clarke's 10th MotM in these threads. He is the 8th player to reach that milestone after Lockyer (23), Harrison (20), Lines (15), Gaffney (14), Sinclair (13), Taylor (12) and Parkes (11).
The starting XI average was 5.65.
Smith 3.7
