Bonham 7.5 MOM was assured generally and not frightened to come and get the ball
Leadbitter 5 Struggling for form and fitness Martin 5 Looked ok but two stupid tackles Lockyer 7 Looked back to his best Craig 6.5 Better at Centre Half Rodman 2 Shocking to be honest O Clarke 7 In reasonable form tbh Upson 6 Bang average Payne 6.5 Better second half Nichols 5 in truth should have been sent off Matthews 5 Disapointing
Broadbent 6.5 Came on and did ok Bennett 7 Did make a difference but very lightweight
Ref 1 Shocking even though our approach was physical to say the least D.C. 7 Shrews 5 Poor but better than us
To be truthful we were as poor as Shrewsbury. We look as though we are in for a long hard season. No quality without Sercombe or Lines. The goal was our only shot on target, and that was a pen. Just got to keep going and try to find some form. Lines has to play Saturday as we are lacking any creativity other than Bennett when he feels like it. Onto next project UTG

Bonham 7 Did what he had to do well. Leadbitter 6.5 Poor first half but one of our best players 2nd half, unlucky with the OG Lockyer 7 Did well Craig 6.5 Did ok Martin 5 Solid debut except for getting sent off!
Rodman 2 Casual and careless O Clarke 7 Has started the season well Upson 4 Poor yet again Matthews 5 High energy player but disappointing yesterday
Payne 5.5 Gone backwards since his first 2 games. Nichols 5 Did ok, not on long enough
Broadbent 7 Defended well Bennett 7.5 Took a lot of pressure of us winning free kicks etc when we had 10 men
Ref 2 A massive cheer went up when he gave us a free kick at the end of the 1st half. That was the highlight of the first half too by the way! Shrews 4/5 Looked a similar team to us. No cutting edge in final 3rd. Backed them to go down pre season. Crowd 5.5 Considering the standard of football it was good. Disappointed we only took 639 though. Where were those extra 1200 that made it to QPR in the week?

Bonham 7 Steady
Leadbitter 4 Very Hot and cold Martin 6 Steady but missed a couple of cross's from a very good winger Lockyer 7 Getting back to his normal Top Game Craig 6 - Steady but getting slow
Rodman 2 - Cant believe how slow and can't pass a ball for Toffee O Clarke 8 Ran the midfield for us without any help from the rest Upson 3 Can't see what DC see's in him
Payne 6 Huff and Puff but with NO service, very ineffective Nichols 6 If they played the ball through the defense for him the better he will get, but some pretty poor Huff ball was the scrapes he was fed Matthews 5 looked out of it today, will get better
Broadbent 7 Solid as the Gibraltar Rock, distribution still poor Bennett 4 just Poor, never got pass a defender today
Ref NIL utter rubbish
Shrews 3 Crowd5

Bonham 6 - Solid if unspectacular. One point deducted for the punch when a catch would have been easier and safer.
Leadbitter 5 - No chance with the OG but where has his pace gone? Lockyer - 6 Getting better but a few loose passes Craig - 6 Competent enough and a brilliant tackle in the first half. Martin - 5 Reasonable debut but any chances to impress killed off by an over fussy referee
Matthews - 5 Never really got going Upson - 4 Poor and out of sorts O. Clarke - 6 Improving but shooting boots left behind Rodman - 1 Probably the worst performance from a Gas player this season. Should have been substituted early as not interested. Tony Craig showed more pace. Nichols - 6 Substituted for his own benefit as getting overheated. Good touches Payne - 6 Feel sorry for him as he is giving it his best shot without any support or service
Subs: Bennett - 6 good touches but not on the same wavelength as the rest of the team Broadbent - 7 Dominant in the air and should really have started
Crowd - 6 Did their best but very low on Weetabix supplies this year. I blame Brexit. Ref - 3 Far too fussy and keen to show cards. Bit keen to give the home side what they wanted Shrewsbury - 4 A poor side. Had their chances to win this match. Fell over far too easily. A team with as little confidence as us.

Bonham 7 Looks the part, confident , first game. Will improve.
Leadbitter 5.5 Where has his pace gone, has the injury left a mark. Seems to get the turbo on inconsistently. Lockyer 6 Undroppable Tom drifted in and out , not the Steve Elliott we badly need. Craig 6 Confident and tidy, neutralised some attacks but was skinned for pace here and there. Martin 5 Not seen enough to judge, end of. The shrew who went down for the red needs an Oscar.
Matthews 6 Never really got going. In and out performance, good close ball control. Upson 6 Again, drifted in and out. This lad can get stuck in when he want's to. O. Clarke 7 Solid as usual, gets forward, driving runs, shows commitment. Rodman 5.5 Again, another who just did not get going.Has ability.
Nichols 5 Lacks physical strength to throw his weight around in the box. A fox in the box, potentially. Please score Tom. Say what you like about Taylor, he had the guile and skill Tom lacks. Same for Bodin.
Payne 7 Undoubted strength on the ball and holds his own when travelling with it.Drifted in/out towards the end.
Subs: Bennett 7 Great turns and dinks when he can, silky at times. Flashes of brilliance... Broadbent 7 Solid, play him every week, he will bed in fine. Few mishit passes, the man is a mountain.Just needs game time.
Crowd 6 The Glorious Gas sung here and there, all of us amazed at the refereeing decisions !! Ref 2 For turning up. Interrupted play with cards, pedantic on challenges / tackles, biased toward Shrews. Spoilt it. Shrewsbury 5 Did us for pace up the wings, looked dangerous in the box a few times.Barely deserved the draw.
Darrell needs time to glue this bunch together. There is a decent core team here. Facts : Lines, Sinclair, Partington and Sercombe O-U-T .... The above have only been together a couple of months .... About a year ago we gave Wolves ( the new Citeh, with Jesus of Nazareth the new Pep ) a right fight at Molineux, held them to extra time then they got their dodgy penalty .... Darrell knows what he is doing .... We are all Gasheads, unconditionally !! UTG, the glorious Gas.

Results in and Ollie Clarke was Man of the Match with a score of 7.07.
-Rodman's 2.5 was the lowest score of the season so far and the lowest since Shrewsbury away last season when 7 players made lower scores.
-In fact trips to Shrewsbury have often resulted in record low ratings. The 16/17 trip to Shrewsbury is the worst rating for Brown, Sinclair, Taylor, Bodin, James Clarke, Puddy, Hartley, Colkett and Boateng. The 17/18 visit resulted in the worst ever ratings for Lockyer, Lines, Sercombe, Partington, Sweeney, Nichols, Slocombe, Bola, Telford.
-Technically, Bonham and Martin also got their worst ratings in this game, meaning that of the 80 players who have received a Player Rating, 21 had their worst ever game at the New Meadow. Amazingly over a quarter. (This may also be my favourite stat I've written in these threads)
-The referee rating of 1.2 was eighth worst rating ever and the third lowest rating since the Conference season. Only at Bury in 16/17 (1.0) and at home to Oxford in 15/16 (1.0) did a ref score lower.
-There were five worse refs in the Conference: Barnet (0.0), Braintree (0.7) and Eastlieigh (1.0) away and Wrexham (0.9) and Forest Green (1.0) at home.
-The starting XI average was 5.45.
Bonham 6.9
Leadbitter 5.1 Lockyer 6.6 Craig 6.2 Martin 5.0
Matthews 5.1 Upson 4.6 O. Clarke 7.1 Rodman 2.5
Nichols 5.0 Payne 5.9
Subs: Bennett 6.1 Broadbent 6.6
Crowd 5.8 Ref 1.2 Shrewsbury 4.4
