www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-bristol-rovers-boss-sneaks-2046923Some Bristol Rovers fans may have spotted a familiar face walking amongst them on Saturday. With the Gas playing host to Coventry City, a former player and manager for both sides donned a flat cap and zipped his anorak up to his chin in order to watch the match undisturbed. Yet Rovers fans will not like what Bobby Gould had to say too much. Revealing his attendance to Coventry Live the 72-year-old, who scored 12 goals in 36 appearances for the Gas between 1977 and 1978 before going on to manage the side between 1985 and 1987, said he wanted to sit with Sky Blues supporters but was unable to. Bobby Gould went incognito to watch Coventry City against Bristol Rovers “I tried to get in with the Coventry lads but they’d sold out of tickets,” he said. “I was going to go and stand with them; I wasn’t going to sit in the stand. “But I paid my £18 and went and sat in the home end, sitting opposite the Coventry City fans that got soaked on the day.” He added: “I went for a cup of coffee with a friend yesterday and was asked who I supported on the day, having played for both clubs. “I said, ‘Coventry City, who do you think?’ “I played for them and managed them and they’re my Sky Blues. “They can never take Coventry City away from me. “I’m a Coventry Kid and what Jimmy Hill did for me and what Coventry City did for me – that’s my team.” Gould risked angering Gas fans further when he revealed he more regularly attends Ashton Gate, having played for Bristol City between 1972 and 1973. “I’m about ten miles away from the Memorial Stadium,” he said. “Ashton Gate is closer and I get free tickets there!” Despite this, when analysing the Sky Blues' performance in their 3-1 defeat, Gould had good words to say about Gas keeper Jack Bonham. “I thought Burge had a really good season last year but he just didn’t get to the third goal, and that surprised me. “He got his finger tips to it and at the level they are playing at now you have to be able to pull off the big saves. “That’s what happened to the Bristol Rovers’ keeper, Jack Bonham; he made two wonder saves in the first five minutes and then, all of a sudden, within 20 minutes Rovers were 3-0 up instead of being 2-0 down. “Football is like that sometimes. You can never predict anything and that’s why I have never had a bet on any game in my life.”

"Gould risked angering Gas fans further"
Seems a rather peculiar assumption by the post given that I doubt any gashead minds that he's a cov fan, and I doubt any care that he goes to ashton.... Up to him innit....

How strange that he was the guest speaker at a lunch on Thursday 20th September at The Mem and was full of praise for BRFC.
Fake news?

Yeah, and not only that. I see that our very own impartial local rag has reprinted the same bollox on their online version (who would pay for that crap) under a heading something like "What a former player had to say about Rovers will delight City fans" You couldn't make it up. Also, what is the point in a lady garden disguising himself to look like a bit of a, well, lady garden? I wonder if said lady garden went running to the Coventry Times, or whatever it's called to tell them how clever he'd been? They couldn't possibly have recognised him; he was better disguised than Le Clerk from 'allo 'allo.

You can take the boy out of brum but you cant take brum out the boy. An odd comment given that he's from Coventry and states that in the article.

I remember he left us quite abruptly when he went to Coventry. I think we heard about it when we arrived at Eastville for a home match. It left a slightly bad taste at the time, and I remember him bringing a team down for Steve Bailey’s testimonial and getting pelted with eggs by someone in the Borth Enclosure. He then did a good job the second time round he managed us and then left for Wimbledon. Can’t say I ever viewed as anything but an ex player and manager.
