I remember persevering with Daryll Duffy- didn't work out well. I remember persevering with Matt Harrold - didn't work out well. I remember persevering with Luke James - didn't work out well.
A striker who has blanked for a year is not suddenly going to become the talisman that jettisons us into the Championship just because it looks like he's trying hard (big whoop, you're paid to try hard). A striker who was the top scorer at the team that finished third in this league last season (and who has scored this season) might be. A striker who was the top scorer in the league he played in last season (and who has scored this season) might be. A striker who is a good young prospect from a higher tier club (and who has scored this season) might be.
How anyone can put faith in the bloke who takes three touches to miss a shot in front of an empty net in the warm-up as the answer to a relegation dog fight is beyond me.

He did better yesterday. I've already said that. I just can't get excited by a player who has done more or less f**k all in an entire YEAR!! I really don't get this attitude towards him Hugo, do you really think he wants this situation? It must be agony for him, but he still plays his heart out even though he can't score. Imo it isn't just his fault, the narrow tactics that DC employs doesn't give him or the other strikers any room to do anything in the box, they even have to drift out to the wings to get the ball in positions where they won't score from. Second half was entirely different once he played with wingers. It's down to DC's rigid thinking. I would persevere with Tom and the wingers and if the other strikers score and he doesn't it would be time to look at the situation again. As a team we scored shedloads last year. Nichols got 1. It isn't about lack of service, he is just not very good. His general goalscoring record is not good enough to suggest that this is a blip. It's getting too much now to read about how he tries hard. He is a very lucky boy that he gets paid very well indeed just to put effort in. I'm sure we all try hard at work but without proper application of our effort our boss would have no hesitation in pulling the triggsr on us because it is their job on the line if we don't produce results. He needs sending on loan but good luck trying to find a club who will take him with his wages and goalscoring record.

I don't get the attitude that it's ok to play for a year, that's a YEAR and not score and that's good enough for people because well...he sometimes looks like trying. I'm sure he's a lovely lad but DC needs to wake up because Nichols will cost him his job.

It's harder for him than us. Or perhaps some fans think he deliberately goes out there not to score, lol.

It's DCs fault he keeps picking him.

We were relegated in a squad that contained Duffy and Likewise Harrold so how anyone thinks Nicholls is a good idea I don't understand.
