Incredibly fragile defence? We’ve conceded less than a goal a game this year.

bonham parts lockyer craig kelly Bennet upson Sinclair matthews sercombe Nichols or bonham parts lockyer craig kelly Bennet upson sercombe matthews Reilly Nichols The sooner DC realises there is a flaw in rotation policy the better, players dont have to work hard to get back in the team, just given a start a few games later. I think you are right and the rotation affects players in different ways too. The experienced ones probably just get on with it , some players COULD just take the pay and know they might be in and out of the team. The youngsters though can take things to heart and it affect their performances by then trying too hard. But for me the biggest issue is all about partnerships, we have conceded less and by not changing centre halfs and keeper every game this proves the point. Elsewhere in the team it is a constant turnaround, full-back/wide player, central midfield and strikers are changed virtually every game which means we lose the consistency and players knowing each others game. Wasn't a problem when we were winning though...

...but a mix of Bonham and poor opposition finishing has saved us from conceding plenty more goals.
The defence still looks shaky to me when they are pressed.

We'll use up all of our goals for the next month tonight like we did with the Coventry game. 3-1.

I know Bonham has been a real asset for us this year but it would be unfair to attribute him with all the credit. We’ve been shaky at times but ultimately Lockyer, Craig and Clarke have done what they’ve needed to do as defenders and kept the opposition out. We wouldn’t have conceded so few without them putting solid performances in.

The problem we have is that we can't afford to let in a single goal in any game. Should we do that we will almost certainly lose, based on current form. And lately we've been playing teams around us who are also struggling for form. It will be a test of our new settled defence when we come up against some form teams higher up the division.

Giving tonight a miss, a 200 mile round trip after attending all our home games this season was one trip to far for a slightly disillusioned ST holder. The club will gain by my tenners worth on ifollow but miss out on selling me a sausage roll, coffee and 50/50 tickets. I hope DC spends the pound gained wisely! As for the game, from memory we were well and truly turned over by Wimbledon on a night match last season, was it 3-1? Hoping for a reverse scoreline this time around but can't see anything other than a 1-1 scorefest. UTG!

So I assume sticking with the theme of playing centrally minded players, I'm going for Bonham, Craig,Lockyer,Broadbent,J Clarke,Lines,Sercombe,Sinclair,Upson,O Clarke,Nichols and Payne. Should be narrow enough for a dire evening out. 12 on the pitch, should be interesting 😉 Yeah, but Payne doesn't count

I don't know if there were or not, but it's been a fairly common complaint over the years. Projects is DC's method and it hasn't served him too badly so far. The problem this year is that chanves have come as a result of none of our strikers really looking like they are the answer tomour goalscoring woes. Are they dropped because they're not the answer or are they not the answer because they get dropped. Chicken or egg?

I'm pretty sure that when DC sat down with Tommy Widders to go through his Little Black Book of Potential Signings, that Payne and Obiwanknobe (the Walsall kid) were to be found on the back page........and there is our problem.
