I used to watch Bristol Rugby when they played at the Mem. It was always the case that you could drink on the terraces. Home and away fans mingled and there was never any trouble. However, football crowds are different. They may be segregated but I'm not sure I fancy a group of watered up wankers stood by me in the Blackthorn. There are some there already,I know, but at least they can't drink for the entire time they are in the ground. There are a couple near where I stand. One slobbers and spits over everyone and the other only watches about 25 minutes of each half cos he's always at the bar. More than happy for people to get watered in hospitality and watch the game from there. Just my opinion, of course.

I go over to Germany quite a lot, it’s bloody brilliant. Wouldn’t work here though.

I remember speaking to a German lad at the Euros, “why do the English chuck beer when you score? It’s more precious than a goal”. They’re right.

If drinking in stadiums was allowed then the whole culture of banging 4 pints down her neck before kick-off and a swifty at halftime would be eradicated, which surely makes for a more civilized experience....
The current regulations just encourage people to down pints in less than 10 minutes....

The worrying about chucking the pint everywhere is no different to someone having a Coke or Fanta currently.
As long as it’s in a plastic pint cup and not in bottles that can be thrown I’d be all for it. I genuinely don’t see why they banned it anyway, pathetic rule imo.

Surely someone with 4 or 5 pints on board is more likely to spill their drink over you than someone with a coke? If they go down this route I'd like to see "dry" stands where there is no drinking allowed. Really can't understand why someone needs to get watered watching Rovers......I've undone my own argument there haven't I?

Watching us this season would drive most people to drink! Having said that, it's a no from me to the original question, bad enough standing behind someone last week farting every five minutes, without having beer spilt on you.

Can never understand why people need to drink at a football match myself, much prefer to be intoxicated by the scintillating football on offer..... oh wait pass the Butcombe please

The two 45 minute spells of not drinking are important to break up the day's session. The Half-Time one is crucial otherwise it'd have worn off by the end of the match and you'd start feeling ill.

Absolutely yes. The UK is very much in the minority when it comes to this law and as often noted, Rugby is exempt. Stops people piling it in outside the ground beforehand and crowd trouble flaring up due to long queues/heavy-handed stewarding etc.

As I drive to watch football I never drink but I know some that do and it’s never a problem. Like most things some behave some don’t and I certainly don’t want to be near some of those who can’t take it and then start to spoil the entertainment of others. If they do this then I like Hugos idea of a dry area where you know you won’t get the hassle. Blimey, it’s a football match of two 45 minute periods, surely people can wait until half time or FT before needing a drink! Each to their own I guess. UTG!

No thanks, the last think I want is some fooker 20 mins into the game asking people to move out the way so they can get a beer and then come back trying to squeeze into their place on the terrace.
It's not American Football where there are constant breaks or Rugby where there is a constant dirge of sh**e taking place on the pitch

I get your point but it is different. For some reason, some "fans" seem to think it is really big to celebrate by chucking their beer in the air over everyone when a goal is scored. I don't know why they do but they do. I don't mind so much if it is a genuine accident. But you will get people deliberately chucking it in the air.

I racked up about 10 hours of drinking for my last home game. I don’t think I have a problem though as i didn’t need to chop one down at half time. TBH I think I was urinating for most of the break. #wateringlikearacehorse
Yeah no, what was the question again ?
