What are you hiding from? Myself. I just looked in the mirror. That cannot be possible.

The Miss Universe contest changed the rules on entry in 2012 to allow transgender entrants provided the name change is legally recognised in their own country. The one below is Spain's entrant (this is not Miss Transgender Universe but actually Miss Universe, by the way). The world's gone mad I tell you.

Why am I not surprised? A simple injection would suffice for this freak. People bang on about human rights, what about the rights of the human he tortured and murdered? Don’t you just love this politically correct world of ours?

John Worboys, the serial rapist, has today been told he will never be released from prison, and rightly so.
How come another man was recently released, after serving half his sentence, who is described as a danger to the whole country?
Common sense gone AWOL again?

Don’t you just love this politically correct world of ours? I think that anyone that commits certain types of crimes should forgo their rights to anything past the basics and the right to either punishment or rehabilitation. The problem our justice system has is that it's neither punitive enough nor does it actually rehabilitate so it's the worse of both worlds. In terms of treat or punish, I'm genuinely not sure where I stand on that. Maybe Cat A crimes like rape and murder should be punished and lesser crimes like burglary we should be rehabilitating prisoners. If they reoffend, then punish.

There are grey areas but the human rights card doesn’t help. Once you commit a hideous crime like this person then you should have no rights at all as you have shown you are not humane. Allegedly prisons are in the Maine soft so reoffending is a better option for some than others, fed watered and kept warm! Burglary is a tough one because of the overall effect it has on the victim but rehabilitation only works if the person wants to be rehabilitated which many don’t because of the easy life they lead through crime. Whatever, criminals will always find an excuse and blame the system totally.

I hate to say this Hugo.......but....but......remember the furore over prisoners getting the right to vote? I think you'll find it's an EU thing? We cannot forgo them their rights. Your definition of Cat A crimes, like rape, is a difficult one. For rapists like Worboys, then I would like to see extreme punishment. But what about those convicted of rape on a 'he said, she said' basis? I'd feel really uncomfortable dishing out an extreme sentence for someone convicted in those circumstances, but legally, where would you draw the line? I'm sure that a lot of people out there will argue that 'rape is rape'? It's a difficult one.

I agree with your other bit, hard to give a general response to something so specific to each case. The reforms introduced in the 1800s showed a corollary between the harsher the punishment and the reluctance to convict.

Currently our prison system is not geared up to properly rehabilitate. I'm genuinely conflicted on this.

I tend to go by the philosophy that would I be prepared to go to the gallows an innocent man for my views. I understand the point and like you have some sympathy but I would much prefer they were sentenced to proper tariffs. Send them to a penal colony on an oil rig in the North Sea. 😐
