The CDU has elected Merkel’s favoured candidate, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, to be its new leader. This puts ‘AKK’, widely seen as the continuity candidate, in pole position to succeed Merkel when she finally steps down as Chancellor in 2021, if not before.
They have not learned a single lesson. AKK is just a Merkel clone. She will continue Merkel's policies, and more and more people will vote for the AfD.

Traditionally, the CDU have been centre-right. Merkel pushed them way over to the left, resulting in the AfD springing up. Let's not tar the AfD with the 'extreme right-wing' tag. That really is just false. Many who vote for them are traditional, centre-right CDU voters, who feel betrayed by Merkel. By electing AKK, the CDU are giving out a 'carry on as normal' message, when the very thing driving voters to the AfD is just that !

Another question for you Oldie. In the past, you have suggested that Jacob Rees-Mogg is unelectable because of his Catholic views. AKK is a staunch Catholic. She actually voted against same-sex marriage, and wants restrictions placed on abortion.
Does that sit comfortably with you?

Seriously Nobby, I do not believe I have ever condemned anyone for their choice of religion, May have quoted the contradiction between a religious belief and a liberal democracy, but never condemned anyone for holding a faith. To the best of my recollection.

Religion has probably killed more people on this planet than any other single thing.
