Could Paul Hurst work miracles with Payne & Rodman again? To be fair, he dropped Payne for most of the second half of last season. Just the man we need then.

With Wael's connections to the great and good at Chelsea, it's obvious the next manager will be John Terry. He may well be a Player/Manager. Obviously with the AQ's, money is no object so when he.....oh, hang on.

Gutted DC has gone. Have been following this thread and our thoughts seem to vary over appointing a young hungry manager OR an experienced one to see us try and stay up, re assessing In the summer? Personally I would consider Holloway simply as he knows the club and might get the respect of the players. He might be able to get a couple of QPR forwards on loan. My boss says they are looking to Loan out a couple. Put Mansell alongside him and have a plan for him taking over at some point. I just feel we really need to stop the atmosphere turning really toxic, which Holloway might be able to stop. In any case, big big decision for the owners. Get this wrong and the club we all love could spiral. Ollie’s been slagging them off every week in the post I’d put my house on them not approaching him.

This decision will make or break them, so maybe a case of swallowing pride for short term? Surely they must make appointment rapidly as caretaker looks weak choice and a few more defeats we could be cut adrift!

Historically, we've always done better with young, relatively inexperienced managers. In my time, Megson, Williams, Francis, Ward, Holloway, Trollope and Clarke all provided either success or attractive football and are generally fondly remembered. For some reason, the opposite has generally been true of those 'journeyman' managers. Allison, Francis Mk2, Graydon, Atkins (although harshly remembered in some ways), Penney, McGhee, Ward Mk2 had less success. There has been the odd exception to this such as Buckle but generally it holds true. For me, I wouldn't have got rid of Darrell however it's happened and we just have to get on with it. My vote from the early front runners would probably be Flynn or possibly Gary Bowyer. Holloway on a short term deal only as I think his best days are gone but he may be the only one who can lift the place with his enthusiasm (unlikely given relationship with owners). Cotterill would be a disaster in my opinion. Fully expect Coughlan or Hargreaves. if it’s coughlan or Hargreaves I won’t be attending, cheap sh**e option that will cost us in the long run Cotterel or bowyer would keep us up and they got contacts, bowyer would be loved hes a great bloke with passion Yes it will be the cheap option but that doesn’t mean it can’t succeed or it isn’t the right option. DC was the cheap option as well and that has gone well hasn’t it? In the end whatever option the owners take it carries risks with no guarantees of success. Some options will be more expensive but that doesn’t mean they will be any more successful. Whatever the owners do there are no guarantees of success. UTG!

I guess it really depends on what is meant by success.... This year is 20th now a success.... It's difficult in these situations to know what the boards expectations will be....

Just wish DC had taken a few days off to gather himself as he was obviously really down about our situation, could have recharged his batteries and come back with a plan for Jan window which i am sure would have led us to safety, seems the board may have made this offer to him,if so fair play to them, shame DC didn't take the opportunity. As for the next man Cotterill did well at cheltenham,Burnley? and certainly gave City one of there best ever seasons, and rag ass rovers was probably a generalization, not aimed directly at us,though if the cap fits!so no prob for me especially as the idea seems to water that lot off!Like the sound of the Newport chap too, and would have no prob with promoting from within ,some of whom would know if a few development squad players are ready to step up, all the afore mentioned would not be put off by are lack of facilities, whereas the ones on the managerial merry go round might not be to impressed!i just wish the board had ,had the foresight to give DC a hand by appointing a 'father figure'aka Lenny Lawrence to help get him through the rough patch, sure he was a great help to PT,who suffered when board decided he was no longer required, such a n appointment would have been more valuable than some of the recent job hand outs. Finally i speak in defence of Olly! the man is a legend as player and manager and deserves respect ,not the derision he gets from some on here, and no i dont want him to come back as manager as 'going back 'rarely works' and he would be on a hiding to nothing, not as an adviser either as knowing him he would get to involved, so Olly love you to bits , but enjoy your life on the side lines, and thanks for the memories!up the Roves!! Well said, sensible and down to earth comments. Agree with much of that. Now that the shock, frustration and disagreement with DCs leaving has passed I hope we get behind whoever is appointed and support them just as we did with DC back in those dark days of ‘14. I support BRFC and whoever the manager is. UTG!

Cotterill would be a disasterous choice and I think it disgraceful that he has been sitting in the directors box with the idiot Hamer whilst DC was trying to manage the club. For me Paul Hurst is the obvious choice should we be able to get him

The more I think about it the more I believe Graham Coughlan is the preferred candidate. It can't be a coincidence that he is a Argyle legend and Starnes is now CEO here. Perhaps he was brought in as part of succession planning made by the club when DC had a less than impressive end to last season? I think the club have high expectations of Graham and if he is relatively successful over the coming weeks, he's a shoo-in for the job. Good one island! I hadn’t put those two together. Perhaps it’s not the case but you may be right. I always thought that if DC went then Chris H would be at least caretaker, that Coughlan is, with help from CH, makes it a strong possibility I guess. Whatever I suspect there will be lots of speculation over the next fortnight. UTG!

They've lied to us repeatedly, have no backbone, no heart and no ambition. Unless you count baseless fantasy of building infrastructure without researching how much anything costs. It would take a turnaround of epic proportions not just on the pitch, but in their demeanor and off the field plans and vision, to gain any trust for them off me again. Tarnished. I hate them. Rant over. For now.

I would seriously consider him at least as short term option possibly longer for sure but I doubt they will and if they did I doubt he’d take it. Thing is every potential manager only has to read the press to see our situation on and off the field and it’s such a massive challenge with a very realistic possibility of relegation at the end I think they’ll put a lot off. I think we’ll end up appointing from within.

The board really have no idea if they think Cotterill would be successful here. The fans would be on his back immediately in fact anyone following DC has a tough job on their hands. Best option in my opinion is someone successful in non league who can bring in players from that background, a bit like how DC began with us. But just like Brexit it's a right bloody mess. You're not serious are you? More non league players for this level of football. Hang on when you say “this level of football” I presume you mean league 1. Don’t think they’ve just taken non league players to Lincoln. Akinde was a good signing from league 2 and I reckon Stokegifford is right. At the moment lots on here are talking the Cowleys up, promotion from the NL and not yet half a season in league 2. Sure they could do well in league 1 and we would be happy with them. Good managers who can make the jump up, exactly the right profile for our managers I would think. And keep most fans happy. UTG!

The best manager in recent years in non-league that could definitely do a job higher is Daryl McMahon. 57% win record overall and a promotion and two playoff finishes in the last three years.

I sense there's not much of gulf between the top 6 or so Conference sides and the Div 2 sides, looks how us, Lincoln & Tranmere have all done OK since promotion to Div 2, however, Div 1 seems a different league, Northampton soon went back to Div 2 and Oxford & Plymouth are also finding it struggle not sure there's one of the recently promoted Div 2 sides doing OK after their first season in Div 1. Players wise only Leads of our real "non league" players seems to be able to play it at this level, plus possibly J Clarke, with Parts, Sincs and Matthews finding it a bit of a struggle with Mensah going backwards. Taylor & Bodin being the two exceptions although the latter was already league player before he was injured.

Completely agree. I think it's all well and good people saying Cotterill has experience of doing well in this division but the situation and circumstances were entirely different - having the biggest budget and aiming for the title compared to trying to stay at this level. I think the question to ask ourselves is what do we want to achieve? The unanimous 100% conclusion from this fanbase would be to stay in L1. Is Cotterill's managerial skills and experiences suitable for this task? Maybe but probably not. Likewise, is Robbie Fowler, who has never managed professionally, suitable for that task? Maybe but probably not. Hurst took a team like Shrewsbury, who would've had similar ambitions to what ours are right now and got them 90 minutes from the Championship. Bowyer, as Ollie mentions above, is used to managing under budgetary constraints and fan-to-board displeasure. I'd personally be on the blower to Paul Hurst every hour of everyday until he accepts but that's me. He wasn't courted for a Championship (yeah he failed but that's not relevant to our level) for no reason - he's a solid, young manager. The fact that he's more of a favourite for the Cambridge job than ours is slightly worrying for our overall ambition IMO. But hurst signed rodman and payne so his recruitment strategy is dreadful surely? He also got the best out of them, so if anyone is going to replicate that at the Mem, surely he'd be best placed to do so?
