Wasn’t Bobby Gould at the Mem recently, cunningly disguised as Paul Gadd? Aye, but he wasn't being offered a seat next to the Chaiman. Brilliant post Nobby.

Micky Mellon has done a pretty decent job wherever he has been.

Thanks pirate, sounds ok to me. Also a good fit regarding football stuff but as he’s not on the betting list I guess it would be a fairly long odds choice. Not sure the AQS will do anything too out of the ordinary. UTG! Just noticed McMahon is favourite for the Cambridge job.

Does Hamer actually have any influence over the big decisions at Rovers anymore, if not, then it doesn't really matter who he invites as is guess in box 1? If Coughlin wins one of his next 2 games I can see him still being in charge come January as if Cotterill was already being lined up surely he's jump at the chance of managing Rovers at Sunderland?

But I guess there would be good points in appointing from within. Can’t be bothered to check back but am pretty sure there were a few threads, when we were doing well obviously, saying that in the background we had potentially good managers in the club. Chris Hargreaves, Lee Mansell were mentioned and a good number of posters were complimentary about their qualities. We all thought it would be because DC was poached by someone else. However it’s happened it has and we’re in that position. If, and it’s a big if, we were to win 2 and get 3 draws from the next 6/7 matches then Coughlan and Hargreaves could rightfully feel a bit p***** off if they were then overlooked and someone else came in. If they did better than that we’d all be saying give them the job. Yes it would be the cheaper option but not necessarily the worse. Wasting more resources on a past failure may be a more expensive option but it won’t guarantee success. UTG!

Don’t know about anyone else but the anger hasn’t subsided yet. Always thought DC would appoint his own successor from within as he built a structure there from head of recruitment to under 23s, youth etc. Never thought he’d be sacked, always saw him moving up the leagues. Hargreaves and Mansell would have been my pick. Have no faith in our board to make any choice, let alone the right choice

Everyone’s blaming the club but imo dc wanted to leave more than we wanted to sack him.

Dc wanted to leave but he wasn’t leaving without giving the fans the truth as he knew it already in his heart of hearts as we all did. He was failing at his job no doubts but that showed the man for being a legend as he probably lost money in order to do what he did rather than just get sacked in the end. He’s a clever, passionate and proud man. I wish him nothing but luck but please don’t come back opening up old wounds and spilling beans in interviews. Rise above it and move on!
Oh and back to the thread please not cotterill!

They were never going to say he wanted to leave as would make them look bad and on the slip side they wouldn’t say they sacked him either as would also make them look bad. They were always going to come up with mutual consent. He’s basically on gardening leave whilst we now flap about and panic about a predecessor whilst putting on a face. Any miracle workers out there? Nigel Pearson?

The best manager in recent years in non-league that could definitely do a job higher is Daryl McMahon. 57% win record overall and a promotion and two playoff finishes in the last three years. Yes pirate I saw you link him earlier. Afraid I don’t know much about him other than he’s done well on a shoestring and always sounded sensible and down to earth on the very few times I heard him speak. Seemed to mix his teams with a few experienced pros and younger wannabes. Have you seen his teams play? UTG! No way was his success on a shoestring, ebbsfleet have spent big on wages to get where they are and have a wealthy owner.

That is true bb, but he had them playing some excellent football and regardless of budgets you still have to sign the right players, motivate and man manage them to perform and his promotion, two playoff finishes and 57% win record is impressive. I'm not surprised he is some bookies favourite for the Cambridge job.

Everyone’s blaming the club but imo dc wanted to leave more than we wanted to sack him. My interpretation of the starnes interview was that they had a conversation and the club decided dc was leaving by mutual consent. starnes could not actually remember the small detail of who suggested dc should go. Starnes was lying.
