My first comment on this subject, & for my take on events,
Is that it wasn't the boards intention to sack DC, (at the time, as no ready place replacement in place),
The Owners have stated they want "Evolution not revolution"
So letting Graham Coughlan have the Christmas games, (although he's new to the club) he knows how things work
so him & his coaches are best placed to turn things around, rather than wholesale changes in January !!
just my opinion of course !!!
Merry Christmas to all Gasheads everywhere

Makes me laugh how some people would like Paul Hurst after clearly showing his colours by agreeing to move to Ipswich before he had even finished managing Shrewsbury! Do you really want Lenell John-Lewis here anyway?
Now that would be funny. Not. That would not be a sign of any real intent except.... UTG!

They could have announced bringing a new shop to the Mem, then announce John-Lewis signing!

Is it unrealistic to expect us to go after Nigel Clough? Quality manager and I'd like to think that we have at least the same potential as Burton. Unfortunately it is unrealistic I’m think 1970. Especially after last night, semi final of League Cup. He is a quality manager, most of his teams have stuck with him when form has dipped. Not only do we have as much potential as Burton we probably have more but at the moment the potential is exactly that, potential, it is not realised. He has a good relationship with the Burton owners who have run the club well within their limits. But no reason not to think he would be a very good choice. UTG!

The more I think about, the more I feel letting DC go will be a big mistake in the long run. I wonder if anyone thought of sending him out on "garden leave" for a couple of months to rethink and refresh? Those consecutive promotions and consolidation in league 1 must have taken an emotional toil. He could have returned in Feb, say, and given the last phase of the season a real go. Water under the bridge, I. know.....but just a thought. Happy Christmas to all.

Water under the bridge, I. know.....but just a thought. Happy Christmas to all. Yes it’s a good idea brighton. But it is a bit of lateral thinking and I doubt in the football world this has happened before. Can you think of a situation like that happening? I think it’s been done for serious illness perhaps and I seem to remember Martin Ling at Torquay being given leave for a few months. Can’t think of another situation similar but others might know. Football is such a macho-world that esp in our situation, 23rd, it would be hard to explain it to fans and the football world. But in itself I agree, it sounds a sensible thing to do. In any other business it would likely happen, in football... And perhaps it was explored by the owners but DC turned it down. We just don’t know. UTG!

Wouldn't it also be a lose, lose situation for DC? If GC turned things around everybody would want him to replace DC rather than celebrate his return after 2 months, if he didn't turn things around everybody would blame DC for disappearing for 2 months at a vital time of the season.

Pros & Cons
IMO this is how the candidates line up
Holloway Pros = experienced-worked all divisions-good contacts-gasheadish-unfinished business Cons = been before-love/hate character-outspoken-poss short option
Flynn pros = young-early success-aggressive style cons = one club-lack contacts-aggressive style-buy out contract-not managed above lg2
Cotterill pros = experienced-success at this level-good contacts-out of work cons = want large budget-sheedhead-explosive-high salary-struggle to turn the gasheads-short term fix
Hurst pros = successful in shortish career-good tactician-good player spotter-out of work-dc mould Cons = failed at higher level-dc's mate-may be jump again
Archibald = loyal-young-worked with small budget-cheap wages Cons = never worked south border-contacts limited-end up like magoo with a lot of 2nd rate scots-poss long term
Garner = young-hungry- good contacts-cheap wages-out of work-pirate rates him-long term option cons = inexperienced-never managed-unproven-tough 1st appointment
feel free to add your opinions for me Hurst now but if we are prepared to drop and rebuild then give Garner a go

I would say if they are looking to get someone else in other than Coughlan, id prefer they do it sooner rather than later so the new guy can assess the squad ready to do business in the January window.
I'm sure any interested parties will be watching our games but you get to know the players better on the training ground so the sooner they are up-close-and-personal with the players, the better in the battle for survival imo.

Waddock said he would have to put out the youth team because of injuries, don’t know if that happened. Damn you with your facts! Yeah I know what he did, on a serious note though, firstly Aldershot's first team failed to beat the Eagles in the first game at home despite taking the lead 3 times, and perhaps more worryingly, when the FA refused to postpone the game, he threw his toys out of the pram, and despite having 10 first team players available, sent a youth/development squad, effectively scuppering any chance Aldershot had of progressing with the chance of a Wembley final at the end. I would be livid if he did the same in say the second round of the FA cup against a team three divisions below is with the possibility of a lucrative tie later in the competition. Dunno as disappointing as it is the few fans I do know completely understand why Waddock did so. And certainly would be more disappointed to lose more people to injury because quite clearly replacements from the academy side are absolutely not viable replacements for the integral christmas period. Relegation means going part time again for them. Pretty bad news. I think Waddock made the right decision/

Problems is that Wael's not in the country until after Christmas and you can't really trust Hamer to appoint DC's successor. That means Coughlin has probably got 2 games, Fleetwood and Walsall, to convince the board he's up to the task.

By why is Wael not in the country after his manager has left?
We had this issue with Higgs swanning off to Italy during a crisis. What is more important?

I think Waddock made the right decision/ No I get where you are coming from, it was more the appearance that he threw his toys out of the pram a bit that kinda got the alarm bells ringing. To be honest I probably didn't really want him as manager either, in our current predicament I'd like someone with more experience at this level, for the same reason I would not want Robbie Fowler. Had we have been mid table and DC had just been poached by a bigger club then maybe, but not in our current plight.
