Darrell Clarke is a far better manager than Gary Waddock IMHO. Appointing him as DC's replacement would be a very underwhelming decision to me. Couldn't agree more, especially as Aldershot had their a***s handed to them on a plate 7-0 by Bedford Town (3 divisions below them) in the FA Trophy tonight!

Is it unrealistic to expect us to go after Nigel Clough?
Quality manager and I'd like to think that we have at least the same potential as Burton.

I still feel we should make every effort to attract Paul Hurst in my opinion he’s the ideal man for the job after his achievement at Shrewsbury

so would be more of a long term option

I’m for Hurst too he’s more or less trod the same path as DC but with a brilliant finish in league 1 thrown in for good measure

Damm, I had £10 on Solskjaer being our next manager.

If you knew anything about Aldershot you’d know they had a squad of 10 and couldn’t field a team so sent their academy out. Men against boys. Waddock made that call so he could save their first team players for the christmas period.

I’ve seen on the betting sites Micheal Flynn is the bookies favourite but I can’t be the only one that questions if he is the man for us?
Like, i may be wrong and he could do a fine job, but his season and a bit as Newport, as a former newport player and legend where he’s gonna have the team playing for him because y’know, they respect him.
Would he replicate that here? I just don’t know.
I’d kinda rather someone like Hurst with league one pedigree after shrewsbury, or someone with a loan list as long as their arm like Waddock.
But then again, we took a bit of a risk with Darrell and that worked out okay for us.

In fairness due to an injury crisis aldershot fielded their academy side for that match.

Yeah I know what he did, on a serious note though, firstly Aldershot's first team failed to beat the Eagles in the first game at home despite taking the lead 3 times, and perhaps more worryingly, when the FA refused to postpone the game, he threw his toys out of the pram, and despite having 10 first team players available, sent a youth/development squad, effectively scuppering any chance Aldershot had of progressing with the chance of a Wembley final at the end. I would be livid if he did the same in say the second round of the FA cup against a team three divisions below is with the possibility of a lucrative tie later in the competition.

Our youth team might have done better than or first team, in the FA Cup over the last few seasons lol. Agree with what you said though.

I see Alan Archibald is sneaking up on the outside with the bookies 25/1 down to 5/1 A big potato must of gone on him A good friend in Scotland and lifelong Partick Thistle supporter has this to say: " Alan Archibald would be good for you if you get him. He is very tactically aware and used to run Thistle on a low budget. I would imagine he would do a great job with plenty funds. He is a great motivator and can spot a player. I would have no fear for Rovers if you got him." I respect his view and think we could do a lot worse although the comment about plenty funds might be a tadge misplaced

I respect his view and think we could do a lot worse although the comment about plenty funds might be a tadge misplaced TBH I know diddly squat about the man other than what I have been reading online about his recent performances as manager/ previously as player with Partick. Got to say from that read (and nothing else) his recent managerial track record don’t look that good. He has been with them one way and another for 20+ years so has plenty of experience and I think he is likely looking for a fresh start etc. So that may rejuvenate him (or not!) I suspect there is also a case to be made for/against all the other candidates. Not sure that really helps other than to say really glad I don’t have to make the call.... 🤪

Makes me laugh how some people would like Paul Hurst after clearly showing his colours by agreeing to move to Ipswich before he had even finished managing Shrewsbury!
Do you really want Lenell John-Lewis here anyway?

Do you really want Lenell John-Lewis here anyway? He kept Shrewsbury up the previous season then took them to 3rd and a cup final the following season, which makes him a betting looking prospect than Flynn or Waddell? But I doubt we have chance of getting him anyway.

I'd be pretty underwhelmed with any of those 3 tbh, then again nobody really catches the eye as you'd expect during December.
DC made mistakes, most of them this season, but for me I'd have let him try to get us out of trouble.
Better the devil you know; taking on a new manager is really hit or miss at this level and imo as much of a risk as keeping DC in charge.

Yes I can see what you mean but to be fair to him, his FA Trophy is similar to our Checkatrade Trophy. He only had 10 first team players and he did what I suspect DC or any other manager might do in that position. Like all cups even in non league, the FA Trophy seems to have lost a bit of its sparkle in recent years with NL clubs only taking it seriously towards the latter stages. Whatever our views on Waddock regarding coming here I don’t think last night should come into it. UTG!
