I haven’t mate but I’ve been a goalkeeper since I was old enough to kick and catch a ball and I know that when a team sets up narrow without attacking fullbacks you just tell your fullbacks to tuck in close to your center half’s, ideally the boss will stick an anchor man just in front of the back four too and if your well drilled and expecting it then for them it’s like trying to break down a brick wall. It’s good to mix it up of course keep them guessing but playing right footers on the left and lefties on the right every game was so easy for whoever we played week in week out. The reason we’ve not seen Bennet under GC yet is he drifts inside regardless of what side he’s playing I think. Think it also shows just how much we have missed Lee Brown this season too. I don't mind wingers cutting inside, but agree it was getting predictable and would have liked them to have swapped wings from time to time, just to give the full backs something different to think about. Ironically though, whenever Matthews got the ball on the left yesterday, he cut inside too. Would have liked him to have run at the full back down the outside a bit more. Still, onwards and hopefully upwards!! Yeah we really miss Lee he was your ideal attacking full back to play behind an inside forward and Danny leadbitter has been for us too but we’ve lost Lee brown and Danny’s been out of form or injured for a while now. Had we had those two firing on all cylinders overlapping the inside forwards it might well have worked out this season for DC.

Their goal was a good strike with a very slight touch of a deflection. Sometimes you just have to acknowledge a good goal when you see it. I’m not sure there was anything anyone could have done about it. Locks got back well and JC covered the angle as best he could. Bonham almost got his glove on it. Hunter had a great game all afternoon for them and I was surprised when he came off as much as I was relieved. Hunter seems to like playing at the Mem. 2 years ago after a howler by Clarke-Salter he scored and we came back from that to win as well, 3-1 I think. UTG!

I see Fleetwood were successful with the appeal for Evans sending off. At the time I felt it was a booking at most.

Unbelievable. He could have been sent off twice before he finally was. He was out of control from the start.
Ironically, had the clown of a ref given him a second yellow, I don't think they could have appealed.

Their website team could give Trump a run for his money in truth denial - "Fleetwood Town slipped to an undeserving 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers on Saturday, in their away league match of 2018". Which part of that result was undeserving? Presumably now Evans had his red card rescinded they think they would not have lost but he shouldn't have been on the pitch anyway by the time he did go. Even their manager said it felt like playing more than 11 in the second half. Looking forward to the game up there especially if Barton is still in charge.

Evans was already on a yellow when he challenged Lockyer and because the ref did not hold up a yellow before the red, the appeal was successful? If so that shows what a total farce the rules are.

You can appeal a straight red but not two yellows. As previously said a second yellow would have seen him with a one game ban. He got a straight red for the (alleged) offence so was within the rules to appeal. His previous yellow will stand and count towards any others for the season.

Presumably the appeal panel do not have the remit to downgrade the red to a yellow ie it's a binary decision only. As i would have thought it warranted a yellow anyway which means he would still have walked? At least we might see this hopeless ref demoted.

I believe they can judge 'wrongful dismissal', in the case of a clear error, whereby the suspension is removed. Or they can judge 'excessive punishment', if they think the offence doesn't warrant the three match suspension, in which case one match suspension must still be served. But the card still (technically) stands.

Ironic that Fleetwood are moaning about the ref, when in reality they should be thanking him for giving him the red at the wrong time.
If the red gave the red when he should have (or have given a yellow which was deserved) there would have been no chance to appeal and would been sent off first half instead!

The more I watch the highlights the more I think it’s a straight red! I guess jumping in over the top and taking a centre half’s head off is only a bookable...??

It was interesting in his case that because Bodin was in front of him, teams set up to put 2 men on him, which gave him an extra 2 yards of space, which with his pace he made extra space enabling him a bit more time to get the ball in. He also said having a striker that he knew would drift in and score helped in Taylor or Harrison, it didn’t have to be pinpoint on their head, just an area he knew they would make space and time to score in. He said not playing with a good couple of forwards has made a massive negative impact to his game and it’s harder to find a small Nichols on his own in the box.
