Yes I am aware of that but the football we played that day wasn't bad and we created a lot more chances than yesterday.
I am not saying that I'd rather watch better football and lose 4-0 than draw 0-0 with turgid football but I am just concerned with GC's style of football.
Were you concerned with our style of play after our wins at Walsall & Oxford? 1 bad game after a punishing 10 day schedule, let’s give it a bit more time to see how things pan out. Like I said in my previous post I hope it was a one-off.

Lockyer 6.5 Is far better when we don't over involve him in play by passing back to him as his biggest limitation is his passing and today it was back to the midfield passing back far too often and then the big boot up to short forwards although it is hard to criticise the forwards when the ball goes nowhere near them. Undroppable Tom. Contradiction in terms for the main man at the back AND captain. Many forum contributors have chipped in about his actual ability and what he actually does on matchday. Does he look like a commanding sweeper, central midfielder, centre half or whatever you want to call him ? Was not at the game, but have seen him half a dozen times in as many months, and he flatters to deceive every time and does not have the physical or mental strength required as a player or captain. Flashes of brilliance once in a while but still looks a boy against men. Steve Elliott he is not, and we need a player like him. GC has got the confidence back and the team playing. Long may it continue. UTG. Surely Locks is a CB not a CH which is Craig's role, hence why he plays at No 4 not No 5? Surprised posters are slagging him off today after two consecutive clean sheets and only 2 goals conceded in our last 4 games.

Need to be patient it was a dull game but judge the points return and it has been a good Xmas.will be interesting now to see who wael appoints, would think Martyn Starnes will be in the GC camp, Steve Hamer in the cotts camp, and then see if we can do some squad tweaking. GC obviously has seen enough this season to have frank discussions with those he does not rate in a bid to move them on.

Thanks again Steve for the write up. Happy New Year to you, and to all gasheads everywhere.
I wasn't at the game and so can only base my comments on other's views and reports, but it seems to me that having played 4 tough games in 11 days and a virus affecting a number of players, including possibly some on the pitch yesterday, a draw was a good result to go with the preceding three wins. If we had lost yesterday we would have been back in the bottom four.
Thankfully we have 10 days to the next league game to recuperate and work out how to beat Accrington and then Wycombe in another couple of vital matches, and of course the Checkatrade game next week too to work on things without too much pressure. Let's hope we can also keep hold of Bonham and Jakubiak, and bring in another couple of key players.

Upson better than Sinclair yesterday? Not from where I was standing. It's all opinions but to say Sincs was leaving holes everywhere seems odd - to me it looked like he was covering Upson who was, understandably, lethargic.
I agree the selection was wrong, but rather than play Lines and Sercombe over Sinclair and Martin, I would have gone with Lines over Upson. Upson and Sinclair is too defensive and whilst it provides bite it does lack creativity. Nichols for Reilly may have helped to remove the lethargy in our play too. It is ok to make changes to a winning team.
I actually like Upson and feel he has a part to play but for me he isn't as creative as Lines, doesn't have the goalscoring threat of Sercombe, lacks the energy and bite of Sinclair and the drive of Clarke. That said, his all round game is probably better than most of these in that he does give a bit of all these attributes (whereas the others tend to specialise in one). It's just that there is someone better than Upson in each attribute.
As for Bennett, I'm not sure we have seen the last of him. I certainly hope not anyway, as he offers something no-one else does with his ability. He has suffered this year from not having Lee Brown providing width when he cuts inside. I think that when THD is fully fit and slots into the left back position, Bennett could well come back in, allowing THD to overlap.

Most boring game I’ve seen in a long time, if that’s the football GC will have us playing at home I’d rather have literally anyone else as manager, other posters can say what they like about this comment, it is just my honest opinion.

Brown used to get the same cut and paste comments and Lockyer is now as well. Sincs was a bit of a headless chicken when he joined but is far less so now. However, that positional Lack of discipline tag has stuck and is thrown at him every time he plays now even when it's not the case.

I guess we can disregard two key players out with illness & the others feeling the effects of two herculean efforts away in the previous week?

Damn right you can, we have a SQUAD not 2 players, and frankly I don’t think Ollie Clarke as played well during the wins anyway, we haven’t played good football in any game it’s been good honest hard working wins.. I want a manager that can bring good tactics and good football to the team, like every team we play against seem to be able to do

Gogs gameplan was clearly to stop them playing through the middle and hit the wings and channels in a direct approach. Did the same v oxford and it worked sometimes it will sometimes it won’t. If we’d started with lines and sercombe in the middle we’d have torn apart.

Why not play sercombe and Lines then 2 of our better players? Ask GC. Possibly because neither are really wingers? Possibly because he wanted combative CM's early on, let the game develop & bring on those two in the later stages when they might have more impact? Using the whole squad to ease the load on his best players? Who knows?

They weren’t better than other teams at passing off the back of what I saw yesterday. Their centre backs and fullbacks struggled with the ball at their feet and we had a lot of possession in the second half. I’d of rather of had Sercombe to provide a bit of attacking intent from the midfield in the first half as we created very few chances. Sincs is good at his job, especially when we are under the cosh but at home to a team like Burton, who only seemed like they were coming for a point, I would have preferred a more attacking approach.

Am I the only one that thought that this may have been one of our worst performance of the season? Yes we never really looked like conceding but I am a bit concerned with how direct we played. Under DC we were conceding sloppy goals but we were getting the ball down and playing a bit more and creating chances (albeit not taking them!). I am not saying that DC shouldn't have went but I am worried that the style of football GC plays will eventually become frustrating (yesterday reminded me of a John Ward's team performance to be honest). Hopefully yesterday was a one-off and things will change once THD and OC are back. The style of play is a concern for me too. It's fine while we get a few results but people will soon turn if we go on a bad run. Long term, we have to play better football than that. I still think that if we don't play one of Lines or Sercombe through the middle, we are going to be a long ball team. Lines particularly is willing to take the ball from defenders in a way that Sinclair, Upson and to an extent Clarke aren't. Sincs has other qualities so this should have been Upson's role yesterday. We criticise Lockyer's distribution and I would agree it is his weakness, however it doesn't help when he is forced to go long when midfielders don't actively seek the ball. That won't happen as much if an when he goes up the leagues and plays more internationals with better players around him. I want to give GC the benefit of the doubt though. The performance was on the back of a run of games close together and the players did look leggy (making changes may have been the better option). 10 points from 15 has been a great return and there are signs he can keep us up. I'm just not sure about the longer term prospects.
