Bonham is part of our defence though. If Bonham is doing well for us, our defence isn’t soft. You’re clutching at straws. People complain about the defence being a soft touch are talking about the outfield defensive players. It’s the equivalent of blaming the youth coach for Rovers being in relegation, he’s part of the coaching team, therefore it’s also on him How am I clutching at straws by saying that our goalkeeper is an important component of our defence? A couple of years ago when we had the likes of Spiess, Puddy and Roos in between the sticks, have a poor goalkeeper was really punishing us. A soft touch defence includes the keeper in my opinion. |

If we could actually score a reasonable amount of goals nobody would be knocking the defence, their errors are only highlighted by our profligacy in attack.

Could really do with some pace like Leads or Bennett just to stretch them a bit.

Because thats not what you said mate. You said a good GK doesn’t make a soft defence. I’m saying that when people are talking about it, they’re talking about the outfield players. IMO a GK is part of the defensive unit, but he’s not the defence. He’s a goalkeeper and a defender is a defender. Midfield is part of the attacking and defensive unit, but they’re neither the defence or attack, they’re midfield... |
