It seems fairly obvious that there has been a slashing of the budget, just as Clarke said there would be. Evolution at it's best. He didn't say that at all, did he? Darrell Clarke - "I’m being honest now, they try and tell me different, but I can’t see the training ground or stadium happening any time I’m manager and, for me, I think it’s the other way. There’s going to be cuts."

Pirate, sadly your many recommendations seem to have fallen on Stoney ground as far as our Board are concerned.

Going on from his chat about budget and it being raised, he said something like 'if anything it will go the other way.' So, istm, he meant that if he were to guess next season he'd say the budget would be going down not up. You seem to have missed the bit about 'there will be cuts'.

I would like to think that I don't see everything as doom and gloom. GC is doing a decent job so far in difficult circumstances, the owners have done some good things for us, but surely even the most positive Gashead has to be able to see that the investment by DS has been dialed back in the last 2 years? To observe this doesn't just mean I'm a negative gloom merchant. Its just an objective observation based on what I see and also the fact that Wael has become less and less prominent in the media.

Given he was just about to depart we've really no idea what was said to him by the BoD although do we really need to spend £m's more than Wycombe/Accrington spend on wages, it's hardly bringing better results on the pitch? Regardless who else is going to plough a £1m+ a season into the club if the ALQ's put us up for sale?

Why don’t we just chat about the snow?

Fair point but why the title Arm Chair Supporters? Well, I am a season ticket holder with my son, and we go to a fair number of away games. I have today off as I am working this weekend. At the moment I am sitting in my armchair reading this forum so I suppose that yes, I am an armchair supporter!

Pointless getting rid of Bennett with nobody to come in for him. Its not like we are overrun with wingers. Will probably flood the narrow midfield now and hope to hit teams on the break. Kelly is still here so maybe they will continue with him at LB and THD at LW? - Even though THD is far better as a LB. Why is it pointless to get rid of Bennett, hardly played, when he has, he has been crap and on high wages. Good deal in my view. Got no problems with him going, I said when we first signed him that he would be a mistake, but having let him go we should have got someone in the same position not a defensive midfielder.

I think it's quite clear the point that I am making is that we are on a cost cutting exercise and it was forewarned by DC. Viva la evolution.

'Cuts' and 'reduction in budget' is the same thing, but 'I think there will be' and 'there will be' isn't the same thing. And 'reduction in budget' isn't the same thing as 'budget slashed,' imv.

Viva la evolution. Fair enough. I've no idea how much we 'made' this window, but getting rid of Payne, for example, istm would have cost us compared to getting in JCH, coz there's no way Shrews are forking out full whack for him. And istm, getting in Ogogo would cost us compared to getting rid of Bennett, coz again, can't see Swindle paying anything like all his wages.

We don't know, despite Wael's assurance that he will be here as long as he is wanted they have been quite clear that they are here for the long haul. Perhaps if they declared the club was up for sale they might get some offers? Nobody seems to be able to answer the question of why they are still here in the first place. Why are a family of potless Jordanians keeping us on life support when they don't have the finance to realise the club's potential?

I posted this on another thread, I can cope with players being full of their own self importance and arrogance, its what they do in the dressing room and on the pitch that is the biggest concern. I have known a few rovers players to be total bell ends off the pitch, but on it, they were legends. There was no meltdown when Payne left, we were glad to see the back of him, but it was suicide to do it with no incoming striker first, and with no other foil to go with him. So get it right. We also need a winger, we sent our only natural pacey winger to Swindon, and haven't replaced him. I would love to know that reason why. .. you're talking about Bennett?... pacey??... uh you mean a weak 1 trick pony.
