I am watching the British attempts at driving in the winter conditions with utter amazement.
I never read/see/hear about anyone in the UK driving with Winter tyres. Over here, practically all cars have two sets of wheels. One set with Summer tyres, and one set with Winter tyres. You just swap the wheels over in the Spring and again in the Autumn. It doesn't really cost any more apart from the twenty quid to pay the garage to change the wheels. However, it is far safer in the Winter to have Winter tyres on. Safer for you, your family, and other road users. In fact here, if you have Summer tyres on during the Winter your Insurance is not valid !
Why don't more people in the UK have Winter tyres? The cost is very low, but the benefits are huge.

Personally my car won't be leaving the driveway until it's all gone. My company will actually change and store the wheels for me, for free. They arrange certain days where you can drive to work, park in the underground car park, and while you're working they will change the wheels. All to do with safety and looking after their employees. Just a little benefit, but greatly appreciated. |

But the tyres are only on the car for approx six months, so in effect they last twice as long, if you get my drift. You only buy new tyres at the same frequency as before. The only real cost is the 100 quid a year to have the tyres changed and for storing the tyres. What is 100 quid when considering the safety of your family and avoiding damage to your car? It costs me nowt as my company pay/organise it. |

If thats the case theres a piggery on the winterbourne road , just afterr the lights on the left hand side assuming you are heading towards yate(if your coming from yate reverse the directions) |

Might as well have them on for the whole year then No. With Winter tyres your top speed is limited, and there is less air in the tyre so it may affect the ride and fuel consumption in the warmer Summer months. |
