I tried scraping it off with a store discount card I found in my wallet. It wasn't very good though I only got about 20% off.

A roofload of snow fell from a car in front who kindly hadn't bothered to clear it yesterday whilst I was merging on to the motorway. We were in the 50mph average speed limit zone so I overtook with some rage at the relative velocity of about 3mph which gave me plenty of time to administer the evils.

Nobby I'm not sure you're selling this very well! Ha, ha, not trying to sell anything, but since being here I realise how you can make things much safer in Winter at a pretty low financial cost. What is a few quid when put against the safety of your family?

What is a few quid when put against the safety of your family? yeah I know. My better half comes from a land of bad winters and I've driven over there with studded tyres across ice and snow like it was summer. It's definitely worth it in those conditions. I would even consider it myself as I'm often driving in the dark either very early or very late when it is very much colder.

I am watching the British attempts at driving in the winter conditions with utter amazement. I never read/see/hear about anyone in the UK driving with Winter tyres. Over here, practically all cars have two sets of wheels. One set with Summer tyres, and one set with Winter tyres. You just swap the wheels over in the Spring and again in the Autumn. It doesn't really cost any more apart from the twenty quid to pay the garage to change the wheels. However, it is far safer in the Winter to have Winter tyres on. Safer for you, your family, and other road users. In fact here, if you have Summer tyres on during the Winter your Insurance is not valid ! Why don't more people in the UK have Winter tyres? The cost is very low, but the benefits are huge. I think I have the answer for you imho bearing in mind I don't know where you are. In latvia it is law to have winter tyres in the winter. But it is also law to have summer tyres in the summer because if you drove winter tyres in the summer it would damage the road. We have so few days where we would need winter tyres it would just ruin our roads if say we had them on cars from Dec to Feb.

I am in Germany, so not as bad as Latvia! It just seems common sense to me to have Winter tyres.
