We looked well and truly doomed backing December but now another win (perhaps) and we will have preserved our hard-fought L1 status.
Our first 21 games :17pts Our last 21 games : 32 pts (GC and CH worked their magic).
Our first 21 games : Home record W 2 D 2 L 7 Pts 8 ; Away Record W 2 D 3 L 5 pts 9 Our last 21 games : Home record W3 D 4 L 3 pts 13; Away Record W 5 D 4 L 2 pts 19
It would be great to confirm our L1 status in front of our home crowd v Rochdale on Easter Monday ! 4 pts in next 2 games will surely do it !

And some people feel we need a massive clear out... Some posters don't think GC's up to the job and don't like his tactics but would welcome DC backs with open arms! Amazing we've matched Pompey's & Donny's form and if Payne shot had gone in at the death at Sunderland we wouldn't be far of there's as well. As far as the "massive clear out" given that GC's mostly played the same players week in/week out then perhaps those hardly getting on the pitch, Parts, Lines, etc do need to be moved on as they are clearly not good enough.

I reckon this thread and the "massive clearout" thread should have been left until we know what division we will be in next season.

And some people feel we need a massive clear out... I think we do. It`s not as if the whole team has played well, over this period. Absolutely the opposite. One player has pretty much single handedly dragged us to where we are now. If he was to go at the beginning of next season, I think that the players we had left, would have us in the relegation zone from the beginning of the season to the end.

Don't get me wrong, I'll only be sold on GC when/if we stay up. However, GC said it's not about performances - its about wins & there will be ugly performances this season until we're safe. Then let's talk about performances & playing good football next season. We're actually winning games whilst in a relegation battle & people still find the time to moan, its quite outstanding. I'd much rather have our squad & play ugly football than Bradford playing good football in last place... Whilst JCH has obviously been a revelation, I think it's unfair to say he single handedly dragged us to where we are now. I wouldn't be wrong to say all we were missing was a good striker... Should we give JCH the credit for our wins against Fleetwood, Walsall & Oxford before he joined? Those 9 points would see us certainly going down if we didn't have them. Should we also be giving him the credit for the clean sheets against Blackpool, Scunthorpe, Gillingham, Charlton & Coventry - all since he joined? Or do the squad also deserve to get some credit too? After all, you said he "pretty much single handedly dragged us to where we are now". Sure if he left at the beginning of next season we may struggle again, but you're making a point as if we won't sign anyone in the summer, which is outrageous. GC has made 2 permanent signings. 1 has been pretty good & the other unbelievable. It only took 2 signings to take us from a relegation certainty to (on form) a play off chasing team. So why the clear out which frankly we can't afford? Imagine what GC could potentially do with another 2 or 3 players adding to the squad. Im not saying let's keep everyone, of course there are players we need to let go - but a clear out wouldn't be a good move IMO.

Hope you don't see any black cats when you cross the road

If Payne's shot had gone in against Sunderland he may still be here and we may not have got JCH. The 'if' game in football aint so straight forward Topper.

Like most football stuff it’s not straightforward about whether we need a clear out or not and people will differ. But I’d be amazed if most didn’t agree over some of the positions we need to improve in or replace. Keeper situation needs resolving......again. A better, quicker and more mobile RB is needed. I actually prefer Joe P there but clearly GC doesn’t. In midfield we need some creativity who will give JCH better service, including some width. Our defensive midfielders are fine but not all of them in the team at the same time. But most of the team GC has picked will remain to make a fairly strong squad if we can improve those areas where it’s needed. UTG!

We started winning games under GC before JCH was signed people forget we one three on the trot at Christmas, our improvement has been partly down to our re-organised defence not just bring in a striker although we did desperately need one. Look at Coventry we kept a clean sheet, Sunderland let in 5 against them.

Even if we don’t get another point I still think we’ll be safe. That said I sure we’ll get at least 3 points before the season ends. We’re staying up lads .
