Didn't go to the game, watch on iFollow and nor have I fully read the previous ten pages of this thread but I'm delighted I'm unbeaten in two as creator  However, could someone please advise on how we set up? Looked like 5-3-2 on paper, in which case I'm delighted but how did we look etc.? Congratulations on your winning match day thread. We did set up 5-3-2 we were awful in it. Partington is definitely not an attacking wingback , msybe in the conference but definitely not this level. Cogs changed it with about 20 mins left and straight away we kept the ball on the floor and were the better side, scored and probably would have won it had it been a cup game / extra time. We have got some good creative footballers in this squad , Nichols sercombe lines Holmes-Dennis and we’ve got some real grafters , James Clarke , Sinclair, Lockyer, Craig , all good examples of these but it’s all about getting the balance right. The first 70 minutes today the balance was awful but the changes improved it. I don’t think we’ve lost a game yet when Harris and Nichols have started together up front. I hope we start with those two Monday. Thanks, Soc. Definitely agree re: Nichols and JCH. It's weird because I think the current squad completely suits 5-3-2 on paper, if we had a RB version of THD (perhaps Rodman might be a shout there?) but considering how well we've done in terms of points under GC I think it seems silly to revert from the diamond from now til season end. As said in another thread, hope Deon and Kilgour get game time now we're all-but safe. |

I was there today. First 60 mins were v poor. GC got the shape, tactics and team selection wrong. Dons were no great shakes and had GC made changes at HT (or before), moved to a flat back four and brought Rodders on sooner, then we could have pushed on for three points. We needed width and midfield bite. My fear is with GC manager next season, we will be in a similar struggle to this season. He should only have been made interim manager with a decent bonus for keeping us up. We are at least five players (and a decent manager) short of having a squad that can challenge for the playoffs. GC's taken a team looking odds on for relegation and turned them into a top 8/10 team on current form, what other "decent manager" would have done a better job? Apart from Wycombe I don't think we've even lost to a team outside of the top 6 under GC, which is an amazing achievement after we were losing virtually every away game under DC. |

Exactly, cogs keeps getting a hard time even though when appointed I don’t think many had us for staying up! He keeps saying it’s horses for courses and he wants to play better football next season. From 4 points adrift from safety in December to 5 points clear in April is a great turn around.
And it’s not like there were massive changes, a couple sent out on loan and a couple bought in.
Obviously one of those has made a massive difference.

Clarke Harris hasnt Averaged anything like the goals to games ratio anywhere else that he has for us and if he’d gone to form on his career so far we’d almost certainly be in the bottom four, perhaps even bottom of the division now
To be honest I’ve got to say if we lose Harris in the summer then this squad without him would seriously struggle next season unless we find another gem.
We have got some decent players but losing your top striker when your a club like us ,without direction in a crappy ground and a manager who heart on sleeve , well it’s whsts always happened and we all know how it ends.
Thing is when your paying peanuts sooner or later your luck will run out regarding finding top players on the cheap and you’ll go down.
At least we’re 95% safe now
The problems won’t go away once we’re safe we’ll just have the relief we’ve stayed stayed up.

My first visit to Kingsmeadow and I have to say it has the crappiest away section I've ever been in. Is it that bad for away fans at The Mem?
Talking to Wombles fans before the game they had a special mention for Wykscum and their dirty, cheating, anti- football tactics. They really must be the most hated team in League 1 and I'd love it if they went down.
Finally, if G C is allowed to get his shopping basket out in the close season then he could do a lot worse than add Piggot to the purchase of the 2 Bradford City players I mentioned last week.

What a superb day that was. 11am arrival in the capital and only just arrived back in Bristol 12hrs later. Beer stops in Victoria, New Malden? And then Kingston! A blazing hot day on the open terrace where we paid £17 to effectively see half a game of football. Possibly the only away end in the football league that makes ours look fantastic. My third visit and still unbeaten at Kingsmeadow with a win and 2 draws. What we did see of the match was ok, but we definitely weren’t at it today.
Still, it was worth seeing us labour through the game for THAT strike from Ollie to break Womble hearts. Its been a less than impressive season but the 2018/2019 goals compilation will be a delight!
Special mention to the Wimbledon fans behind the goal suffering the same fate as their Plymouth counterparts. Fail to give the ball back to our lads, opting to mess around with it and waste time with a few “wahayys” will only see you punished with a ‘worldie’ strike minutes later. Watching Bonham take his time on the very next goal kick and give us a wry smile as he did it, whilst the home crowd went ballistic was absolutely brilliant.

But who is going to spend what would be big money on a striker who has only shown this form for three months?
If he's still doing it by January, we may have a problem hanging on to him. But until then, brilliant though has been for us, I can't see him going anywhere.

JCH has obviously been a masterstroke and at least if he goes we'll make a huge profit (I fail to believe our board would be stupid enough to deal with his departure like ones previous, but this is our board after all...) and I think Ogogo has helped sure up the midfield and add some bite. Gives me confidence for the summer, especially if GC if getting top eight form out of the current bunch. Positive times ahead. |

I have been a critic of Tony Craig; however, I am prepared to eat my words, today Craig was immense today; however, I did feel for Partington, playing him as right-wing back was a disaster, thank **** Rodders came on in the second half and going to a back three with Sercombe also coming on for Trariq, made us a lot better in midfield, again although Ollie score a wonder goal, for me JCH was tremendous, leading line and winning so many aimless balls, tremendous signing. Craig has saved us so many times recently with goal-like clearances and last ditch blocks. I love his commitment to the art of defending even at the tail-end of his career. Hope he has another couple of seasons in him. |

Absolutely right. Do you think we need to replace Linesy because you think he's finished or because GC just doesn't seem to rate him? I still think he has a year or two at this level and would like him to stay. However, I agree that if the manager doesn't think that then he has to replace him with a playmaker. We are terrible to watch without one. I honestly don’t know, I’ve heard everything from fellow supporters who have said pretty much everything from fallen out with Cogs to having personal problems which I was told today, but to be fair that side of it is none of our business so i won’t go in to what was said, these blokes are people not just players and Chris lines is a legend in my eyes for dropping two divisions and coming back to us while we were in the conference and creating goal after goal for the last four years. Learned how to get stuck in too, under DC. Wouldn’t have kept his place in the side if he hadn’t. I think he would have made a massive difference this season even in a compact midfield like we’ve been playing recently, lines as an attacking playmaker probably would have made more of an impact than Liam’s made this season in terms of creating chances. Liam has only scored one goal this season I think and doesn’t create much for others even last season when he was on fire he was a head down two or three touches and shoot kind of player. This to me tells the story of why we’ve struggled so much going forward this season. Sercombe looks half the player he was last season and Chris lines is whatever the situation is I dont know but we haven’t had our top assists player from the last four years suddenly and when you lose that so quickly and all your other midfielders are gritty players who will run through walls but haven’t got that killer ball your bound to miss it. Few attacking options in midfield . Fair play to olly though another cracking finish from out of nowhere. Thing is if your relying on hard graft and world class goals then the chances are you’ll struggle over a season. When are you going to accept Lines is past it now and is going to be released? |

GC has turned results around using largely the same squad of players that DC had previously failed with. His mindset yesterday was not to get beat and it took a great goal to force his hand to change things around and go more attacking. It would be reckless to try and attack for 90 minutes in a game that you only need to avoid defeat in. We were in the game with 20 to go so he made positve changes and got the result. I for one think GC got his tactics spot on yesterday. I agree he needs 2 or 3 new players next season but he's shown enough since becoming gaffer to suggest he'll be the right man next season. |

300/1 with a couple of bookies. While I think it is unlikely, that seems overpriced. Admittedly, I haven't worked out all the possible scenarios though, so it must almost be impossible? I think .... If we lose all our games And all around us win all of theirs Except where they play each other and I assume the lower placed team wins Then we need 3 points, to be above Southend and Muff on GD, with Walsall and Wycscum below us also. Thanks for that. Others will drop points but we shouldn’t assume it. Three more games, three more points. It would be very nice to get it done Monday. |

Not sure I’m with you on this one....? Lost Internet connection and it all went crazy! I was going to say how much I enjoyed the pay-back for the Wimbledon fans ball-keeping incident. Loved how Bonham took his time over a later goal kick, and watching the same fans go ballistic at him as he wandered over to collect the ball before lazily returning to set up his goal kick. I would have loved to see his wry smile, I take it you were one of the lucky ones in the seats behind the goal. |
