GASBOARD... an idea i've had buzzing round my head for a while, so bear with me and dismiss it if you like i've got broad shoulders, i'm just throwing it out there
I raised this at the recent Supporters club AGM and the club said they'd look at it if i got my idea down in writing, i think it could have more benefits if or when we move to UWE, anyway here it is.
I think this idea would possibly be for the Supporters club to look into first, in fact maybe they kind of do it already, so i'll copy it into the SC Section too.
I'd like to run an idea past you, to improve communication with the football club and to help raise and push forward ideas from within our fanbase i think we should look into the possibility of forming a "GasBoard". A group of members would need to be selected from those wanting to make a difference, Gasheads could put their name forward and a vote could be held to elect leaders (a committee?) of particular categories. These leaders would meet up say quarterly to discuss with other fans who have thoughts to share and if anything requires action or raises concerns it could be forwarded to the club. this would include criticisms, ideas, suggestions etc and put forward in an organised and respectful way.
A Bristol Rovers Board of Fans "GasBoard" could be set up to help improve communications between fans and the Club regarding different categories of our club and the members selected are there to represent you, the supporters.
If you have a question for one of the members or something you would like raised, you could contact the relevant member via email or meet in person pre-match etc. You would be able to contact any one or more of the elected candidates on any issues.
Obviously Elected Representatives will not be expected to reply to every correspondence they receive and more urgent day-to-day issues or questions should be directed to the Club.
My initial idea would involve the following example categories which would of course need everyone.s view to sort out, these are purely a suggestion and would of course need fine tuning including more categories if required:
Season Ticket Holders Fan's In Exile Pay-on-the-Day/Casual Fans Families Female Fans Disabled Fans Ethnic Minorities Under 18s Fans who attend away games
Role of the GasBoard
As an elected member of the GasBoard each individual has a duty to liaise with fans from the group they represent and ensure they best serve their interests in meetings with the Club/Supporters club. Each of the members is contactable via email and they are able to provide feedback and take questions from the fans they represent, as well as share updates after each meeting.
The GasBoard will be to benefit all supporters and could improve communications.
• The Fans Board will provide a platform for supporters to communicate directly with key Club staff in a structured manner • Give the Club greater insight into the topics and issues that most affect and concern the wider Rovers fanbase • Allow supporters to better understand the Club’s decision-making process on key issues • Enable supporters to play a crucial role in helping the Club achieve success on and off the pitch • Provide transparency regarding the key issues that affect supporters
Anyway thanks for reading. UTG

Hi Jon,
I will e-mail this to all the BRSC Committee and Supporters Directors so they are fully aware of your proposal and I will ask them to get back to you.

Nice mention of this on the SC Website, well done.
Brian's Blog A friend of mine ‘in the game’ suggested to me the other week that you can usually tell after twelve matches how league tables are going to pan out. For example, those at the top of a table by this stage normally remain there or thereabouts and those at the bottom often have a tough time. The good news is that we are there or thereabouts. However, it is clear we need more fire power and I’m sure this is a problem which will be addressed sooner rather than later to ensure our continued bid to get back into league football at the first attempt.
You know as well as I do that our support has been fantastic again this season. Over 1,250 at Aldershot and over 7,000 for the Forest Green game. We owe it to you as supporters to bring you success for your loyalty alone. The season has a long way to go with many twists and turns but I’m sure your loyal support will be rewarded come the end of the season.
That support is not only restricted to matches, but also with so much done by so many behind the scenes. I have always praised the work of members of our supporters club, 50-50 draw, Share scheme, programme sellers, Helpline, the club shop, young pirates, ticket sellers and so on. With a club of our size there is so much to do. That is why I was delighted to learn on the Fans Forum Jon the Stripes idea of The Gas Board. Having spoken to Jon we have invited him to the next Supporters Club Executive meeting to discuss his ideas. Communication is essential if we are to pull together as one. There is so much talent amongst our supporters that it is vital this is utilised. For example I am delighted Barry is now meeting supporters to discuss merchandising. I have said to Jon that both Ken and I would welcome the opportunity to be part of this idea once we know more about it – as would the Supporters Club. However let’s sit down together, discuss the idea and see where we go from there.
As you know I oppose talking shops. Like you I want action. I have been asked on twitter regarding another Open Forum. Once we have a date for this, I’m sure the club will let you know – but yes it should be sooner rather than later. Also on other issues I have been keeping in contact with Pauline over the ladies toilet facilities, an issue I raised at the last board meeting. I hope this is resolved, if not then very soon. Also I am delighted that the Supporters Club Quiz nights are coming back – again this was something Ken and I raised. I will continue to press on the Happy Hour but there are offers and I welcome that. I am also pleased the food is improving and will continue to work with the club on this.
I would like to think with the idea of the Gasboard, open forums, the supporters club, word of mouth on match days and all the many messages I receive by twitter or email or forums that everything is being done that can be done. Please contact me at br467@btinternet.com and I will always come back to you .
Once again my sincere thanks for all your support. We have a game to win at Dorchester on Saturday as the FA Cup returns. I hope to see you there!
Best wishes
Bri

Thank you BRSC. I really value the link we have between gaschat and the sc and I know a lot of our SC member forumers are appreciative. As you know, we like Jon and what he has to offer. Please consider this proposal carefully.

Alright buddy, tbh i'm not sure it's needed in the same way now with WAQ owning the club and in fairness he appears an astute bloke in it for the right reasons. Maybe it will be needed one day, but as you know from the lack of interest shown people like a good old moan but rarely want to commit to anything. Shame really. Hope you and yours are well my friend. UTG
