The first two paragraphs. You a hard done by Gashead that believes only things like this happen to us? Awwwww bless.. no get real. Also have we got the financial power to make these guys sign if a better offer is placed? No.... anything else? So which clubs keep managing contracts so badly they lost all their best players for free/peanuts in the space of what, 2 years? If we handled contracts better, we’d sell players and have the money to offer better contracts. Or is that too big of a picture for you to understand? Show me some proof of that then. Every forum up and down the land is full of posts saying the same. Players have the power now and agents ensure the contracts are swung in their clients favour. I tell you what why don’t you tell me what you think we could have done differently to stop the players you mentioned previously leaving us to at least triple their wages plus probably a signing fee? I look forward to your response.

Thanks to Locks for all he has done for the club. What a summer we are facing. Hope JCH is not going anywhere and we can get a decent striker alongside him. Not sure what the budget will allow though. What budget LOL All spent on more backroom staff

Sorry, which part isn’t real enough for you? The first two paragraphs. You a hard done by Gashead that believes only things like this happen to us? Awwwww bless.. no get real. Also have we got the financial power to make these guys sign if a better offer is placed? No.... anything else? Get a grip. It’s pretty obvious this board gets taken advantage of in every transfer window, no one to blame but those in charge of transfer and contracts (Taylor, Bodin, Harrison and now Lockyer all leaving for peanuts or nothing).

You ignore it & try to get me to give you the proof of your point 😂 Do you know how this works? Like I said, show me the clubs fella that keep losing all their best players for free

Overrated but thanks for you efforts Tom. Overrated? Our defensive record with him in the team is decent.

I don't have much of a problem with players coming and going, Taylor, Bodin, Harrison and now Lockyer all have ambition of playing in higher levels of the game and making as much as they can for themselves and who can blame them?
What I do take issue with though, is getting next to nothing for players with valuable market values when under a lengthy contract. The 18 month and 2 year contracts handed out by DC to key players when we were on the up seem to be the main cause of this.
I hope we take a proactive stance in the future and give promising players 3 or 4 year contracts where we can so we can start getting proper fees for players when they start hitting some form. If the rumours are true that JCH is on a 3 and a half year deal then it seems we may have realised this already.

We used to dish out 3 year contracts before, as I recall that didn't work out too well....

Bristol Rovers manager Graham Coughlan confirms Tom Lockyer wants to seek a new challenge
Graham Coughlan has confirmed that Bristol Rovers skipper Tom Lockyer is set to seek football at a higher level - but the manager did not completely shut the door on the defender staying at the Gas.
Lockyer has been with Rovers for all of his senior career and, despite being just 24, has already made over 250 appearances for the club.
Having regularly been involved with Wales squads over the past 18 months, Coughlan says the defender wants to try and advance his international career by playing at a higher level.
He said: "I've had dialogue with Tom over the last three or four months.
"Tom wants to seek a new challenge in a higher division, he wants to preserve his Welsh international career and I have to respect that.
"I'm absolutely gutted and I will be gutted if he leaves the football club because he's been a tremendous servant, he's been a great lad to work with and a fitting skipper.
"I hope he gets what he wants and I say that with a heavy heart because he deserves it from what he's given to the football club.
"Like I explained to Tom, we're here and we want him to stay.
"We're here, but, by all means, go and explore and see what's out there - I don't mean to be funny but I hope you don't get anything and I hope you come back to Bristol Rovers because I'd welcome you back here with open arms.
"I hope it's not his last game but I have to be realistic and I have to respect what he wants to do in his career, he's given us eight tremendous years and he's been outstanding for me since I've come in."
Due to his age, Rovers will not get any compensation for Lockyer, but Coughlan says he still holds hope that the player will give the Gas another season.
He said: "His age has caught up with him and he'll leave on a free but, like I say, I don't want him to go anywhere.
"I'll shake his hand, pat him on the back and thank him for everything he's done at this football club.
"You can't hold it against people who want to go and enhance their careers at a higher level.
"I just wish he'd give me another year, give me 12 months and I could be the one to get him that Championship."

Yeah I realise that but would you rather have you're best players going for nothing or struggling to get rid of a few under performers? It's much harder to keep you're top players then to get rid of your worst ones IMO.

They swapped Sanchez with Mkhitaryan, quite a bit different. They also had £20m on the table from Man City and chose the swap deal.

Baffled and gutted that he's out of contract. "Long term deal" in Rovers lingo apparently only means 18 months...
Swansea would be fitting move tbh. Progressive manager with a team full of youngsters, international teammates like Roberts at that too. Plus they've got no money and he's available on a free so why not!?

It's not an excuse to go "we don't have the financial power to keep them." When clubs on similar budgets like Accrington and Gillingham can keep players like Billy Kee and Tom Eaves.
How can anyone actually justify the situation that we're in? Like Widdrington said 90% of the players are out of contract in the summer. 90%!!
Like it or not we're going to see a mass exodus in the summer, players we like will go, players we want to go will go. And we need it. But to sell the best defender in a top 6 defence in the league isn't acceptable unless he desperately wanted to go, and I don't think he would.
The thing we will most miss about Lockyer in my opinion is the leadership aspect, do we really have any other leaders on the pitch? Craig maybe, Ollie CLarke maybe.
I wonder where he'll go though, whilst someone in the comments has pointed out that Forest wanted Lockyer. The reason they wanted him is because they apparently wanted him at RB as a backup target to Sam Byram.
