So much hyperbole. Here are the facts: - Clarke left us 23 places higher than when he took over the club, that's a 25% higher up the Football League than when he started. - His win percentage of 42.3% is also higher than any Bristol Rovers manager to manage 50 or more games since David Williams (47.2% 1983-1985). -Clarke with two promotions is the most successful manager in the club’s history. Since our election to the league in 1921, we have been promoted on average once every 16 years. Clarke achieved two promotions in 357 days. Now, Clarke made mistakes but the way some carry on he’s the worst manager in our history. The stats just don’t back that up. The facts and stats can be presented to suit the agenda. No other manager in the club's history has managed us in the Conference - so let's compare apples with apples. His win percentage as an EFL manager would be something less than 40% and his win percentage as a EFL 1 manager nearer 33%. IMO way out his depth above EFL 2 but certainly not the worst Manager we've had by a long way. With that said, though, 10th and 13th with a squad largely still comprising a lot of the same players we had in the Conference is a brilliant achievement. I wouldn't say he was necessarily out of his depth in L1, given his two full seasons in charge provided stable upper-mid table finishes, but I just think his time at the club grew a bit stale and everyone needed a fresh start after five years. I think Conference/L2 is his level though so somewhat agree.

I think it was the right time for Clarke to go, however he did leave us with a squad that with a couple of additions were kept in the third tier. Something that Holloway and Trollope didn't achieve. Clarke and Trollope did a similar thing IMO by getting rid of the core group to the success and replacing them with lesser or equal players without any attachment to him or the club.

FWIW my opinion is that Clarke IS a very good manager and was a very good manager for us during the period he was with us. He had some very successful signings, some average and some who didn't hit it off either straight away or ever. You look at Ed Upson. Last season he was average at best, so far this season he looks like the quality player we thought he was on paper when he first signed.
Clarke has many strengths and also some weaknesses. I didn't think it at the time but with hindsight, his moving on was best for both parties as it had become stale.
He played some very attractive football but whilst at times we were free flowing and easy on the eye, sometimes we didn't get the results and ultimately he paid the price.
I think he should be remembered as a success with us and not have his achievements belittled or taken away.
We just have to accept the world has moved on and we have Coughlan now and not Clarke. Cogs is a different manager in style and substance and we should judge him on his merits and not compare. Likewise we shouldn't put Clarke down as he was a success and did achieve a lot.

Why on earth would any Rovers fan find the Newport v Walsall game remotely attractive?
Presumably the same people who would find some interest in Grimsby and Mansfield ......

My reading of the situation is straightforward in that both were successful until one of our owners decided he knew better than them and made decisions for them. They both left - not surprisingly, and where are we now? Only time will tell.

Just noticed that Walsall are away to Newport tonight, anyone making the trip across to watch? No because Newport is a dump and it’s a league 2 match between two sides of whom neither are Rovers and if that wasn’t enough the weather is Dam terrible and the bridges are probably closed too. Other than that I can’t think of a reason to miss it.
