How are we going to play passing football on something that looks like a beach?? Sack the Board I say. We had grass last season, now all we have is sand. Not good enough. We pay good money to watch football not beach volleyball (although thinking about it that can be quite - ahem! - watchable) We want our grass back........ . . . . . . Only joking - but thought I would continue a theme that seems to be going through many of the threads on here!

You laugh, but I genuinely think the club put out articles like this to pre-empt criticism all over social media from Roger who's just popped down the Mem and can't believe the pitch has been torn up 12 weeks before the season starts

Bloody hell. I never new it was that complicated. Interesting isn’t it. Also very easy to get wrong, respect to the team of grounds men and volunteers. Cricket pitches are even more involved.

This groundsman really seems to know his stuff and gave us a cracking surface last year.

This groundsman really seems to know his stuff and gave us a cracking surface last year. Problem is it appeared to suit the opposition teams more than us! I say cut it up and flood it. We were far better the previous season when the drainage went all wrong!

This groundsman really seems to know his stuff and gave us a cracking surface last year. If he knew his stuff he would've watered it more...

Must admit that I was rather surprised at the fact maintenance involves completely digging up an award winning pitch!

Interesting read, I had no idea so much work was involved in maintaining a decent pitch. Wonder if he'd like a moonlighting job, sorting out my back lawn?

Must admit that I was rather surprised at the fact maintenance involves completely digging up an award winning pitch! This does NOT require digging up the pitch. The grass is removed but its roots retained, this gets rid of weed grasses that are detrimental to the pitch the pitch is then covered in a sandy soil and verti- drained, this is a machine that puts spikes into the ground under pressure that create holes in the surface to relieve compaction of the soil and allow the soil to be airated. when these procedures are completed the pitch is over seeded with new grass seed which will fill in any gaps in the turf. the pitch is then watered and a new improved sword of grass is produced. Their is no digging up of the pitch. Sometimes the pitch maybe re- levelled this involves putting a laser beam across the pitch to get the levels then levelling ground with machinery. Use to work as planning and landscape office which is why I know this.
