What is this thing some have on here about never wanting our good players back? Is it a twisted sense of pride that we don't need them, or that no-one who dares to leave us will ever be forgiven?
It's a yes from me.

...but it was DC who was getting the best out of Ellis and we have no idea if he gets on with GC. I would suspect that GC would steer well clear to avoid having any form of comparison made. His gaff, his rules!

It's a yes from me. In my case it's simply that I don't see him forming a good partnership with JCH. Both good players but can they play together?

Unfortunately they have both always been played as No9's so that looks unlikely? Plus I can't imagine we can compete with Pompey transfer fee or contract wise anyway.

With respect to posters wanting Ellis back and Ellis himself. Why on earth would he want to comeback to us at this early stage of his career. If he moves on from Ipswich, good luck to him I say. There's plenty of teams out there who have more to offer in all ways then us.

Did you just cut and paste this from last year ? I haven’t seen much at our level other than Peterborough where I have thought ... Wish we had him . GC has said he wants four or five before preseason - good few weeks away yet. Equally most contracts end on June 30th ... not many will commit just yet they are all too busy with their agents scheming. June 30th? Seems odd, I would have thought it was June 1st as that covers the end of the season for the EFL, why would clubs want to pay an extra month past the end of the season on a contract thy haven't renewed? Either way, I wouldn't be concerned if we had a first XI pretty much in place from last year- as it is we need a whole new squad and trying to make up a squad of cast offs because everyone else has got in there early doesn't inspire me with confidence. Mind you I suppose it's all a waiting game at the moment for TW to see who Coventry want to release I read somewhere that the date for contracts ending at the end of June came into being when the PFA negotiated it with the clubs en masses some years ago. I think it’s a means whereby players are protected in the summer and they know that they will be paid in June. I suppose it’s a kind of halfway house. The old clubs pay them until June 30 and then they get signed on July 1 in readiness for pre season training with their new clubs. And if they don’t get signed by July 1 that’s their lookout. I’m sure someone out there will know. UTG!

Ipswich have signed him, will this free up Ellis to leave? Would you have him back? Wouldn't surprise me if Ipswich try to send him out on loan for the season. If so then I'd take him back, would give us a different option to what we've got and could play well with JCH up front.

Would be a no from me.. Too similar to JCH and not what we need IMO.
Would much rather a Taylor type poacher to play off of JCH.

Why not, he has had injury problems but didn't set the Championship alight when he did play last season.
From his point of view it would make no sense to leave as he is still under contract and unlikely to match his current wages anywhere else in L1, even at Portsmouth as I doubt another Championship side would be interested.
Ellis coming back is no more unrealistic than some of the other names i've seen banded about, but id look elsewhere personally.

Ipswich fans will be pi$$ed off buying another lower league dud. The only way ellis would come back is for a shed load of money, like most people.

A fairly prolific and proven L1 striker who already knows the club and a lot of the players/staff? Would be a yes from me but think it is unlikely.

He was very good for us in his last season, got about 14 goals even though he was played as a lone striker for 2nd half of season and he's still 24 ?? His best 4 or 5 years are ahead of him. I'd love him back but think he's too similar to JCH. I hope Ellis gets a fair crack of the whip at Ipshit this season.

I agree that he deserves more of a chance at Ipswich but he doesn't seem to be too highly regarded by the manager and coaching staff judging by last season. They haven't really lost many attacking players who were ahead of Ellis in the pecking order and the signing of Norwood brings him down it even more. Barring a couple of injuries/poor form from some of the strikers ahead of him I would expect him to go out on loan. Guess we'll see.
