Extra Extra: International Footballer Harboured Ambition to Play Above Midtable Third Tier Shocker ..............International Footballer, cough. Lockyer is weak physically and not big enough physically, was always too young to be captain. I never, ever saw him galvanising the defense... If you are all fawning over his part in the promotions then what about the rest of the team. UTG Those are your opinions which is fair enough. That he is an international footballer is an indisputable fact.

I would actually want our players to have a desire to play at higher levels. It shows ambition and in order to attain it they would first have to do well with us to prove themselves.
Lockyer's deserved his chance at Charlton, I don't think anyone can dispute that.

Thank you Tom for your years of service.
Can't forget the time he came on to the terrace at Blackpool and joined in with the support, indeed starting a couple of chants directly. No doubt he gets our scabby, shambolic, little, non-franchised club.
Class act, deserves his chance albeit at the same level he left but with more realistic possibility to reach the next stage in his career.
Thank you again.

As much as he did well here I feel that he stiffed us in how he left or was allowed to run his contract down. We gave him the opportunity to play but lose out on any fee. In my eyes that’s not a player who thinks too much of us but just my opinion. Maybe he knew he wouldn’t get offers ? Personally, I don’t pay interest in players once they are gone. I’m hoping we now have the chance of having a decent captain though as I never thought he was good at that

Should have kept that to yourself. It's popular in these parts to slag off Lockyer - didn't you know he was useless and only got by because he had Craig alongside him to help. Davies is far better according to some and will I'm sure be therefore be getting an international call up himself soon! In all seriousness I've never had any doubts about Lockyer's ability and I'm not surprised he's making a success of his move to a higher level. You'll struggle to find such a good pro with great attitude and team ethic anywhere else.

Yes it’s good to see him doing well but not surprising. You don’t play 240+ games by the age of 24 without being a very good player. He’s had a good first month now he needs to kick on which I’m sure he’ll do. UTG!

Two interesting points for me in that article: Lee Bowyer rates Tom Lockyer as a leader, and also rates his passing ability - Two things he was often singled out for on this forum as not being very good at!

Yes, but we have seen him play more than Lee Bowyer, and some on here have played the game & managed in the champions league 😜

One difficulty when assessing a player's performance is we don't know what the manager has instructed him to do. I watched a training session at Cribbs once and Tom was with one of the coaches and all he was asked to do time after time was to pump a long ball from RCB position out to the left wing.

Pfffffttt good luck trying to convince me that Bowyer knows more than all of us here on this very forum... not having it!!!
