Scales might see more similarities with GC and himself, than Clint Hill though. GC moved to England, when he was 21. So he can educate him on the move in general, as well as the defensive side. Hopefully that could be a deciding factor. People like advice, from others, who have experienced similar situations. People also like money True but not everyone is motivated by money. So it depends on the person.

I wonder if its about starting matches? I mean if he is going to be in our under-23 squad he may as well go to man city. I think posters on here are underestimating joey barton as a manager. He is intelligent and knows his football its just a shame he is a sociopath. Can top 6 chasing Fleetwood really offer Scales more game time than Rovers? Although not sure we can guarantee him game time given you'd expect Craig to be a first teamer for most of this season.

I was just thinking that if you turn down man city development squad but end up in rovers development squad you might regret it.

My understanding is that this will sort itself out over the next week .... While their manager has made himself look a bit daft talking about things too early, we do seem to be dragging our heels for some reason and would be a shame if we end up losing out especially to Fleetwood. Personal terms aren’t an issue apparently .... I’m sensing that if Liam comes in then Rollin could be on his way certainly on loan but even possibly out full time. I wonder if we are trying to broker a deal with one of the local L2 clubs or even Yeovil to see if Rollin might be a fit for next season. Where does YOUR understanding come from, ITK? I only know about Scales from the Irish Press where he is playing in a lowly league but is highly rated as a future prospect to play in a higher league than the one he currently is playing in. I hope we sign him and he prospers here. However your comment regarding Rollin. What is your understanding that Scales would be a better player than him, therefore Rollin must be transferred or loaned out? For my money we already have four centre halves in post. Two would be bench warmers with the other two first choice all day long except for Checkatrade games. Where does that leave Scales "a development player"? My thinking is unless he is far better than thought he is a prospect not a first team player at this time! Is this where the hesitation is coming from?

I suspect that the above assessment is pretty accurate, and if Liam is a real gem of a player then I don't hope we mess this transfer up. If our manager regards him as an automatic first choice and better than any central defender we currently have then get it done today this day. In football you cant wait until next week. what happens in the future is determined by what you do today.

Could it be a budget thing? Someone has to go out before Scales can come in?

If we were to bring in Scales, whether or not he is better than Rollin it would still be a mistake for us to let Rollin go out on a permanent transfer at this time. Still a young emerging talent. He’s at a point in his career where he will want to push toward the first team, so a loan makes sense for him. But we should be looking to keep these young prospects because they will save us money in the long term and maybe even make us a few quid once they have a half season or so of first team games under their belt. If we somehow can’t afford to pay the wages of two young CB prospects simultaneously then I really despair. Just hope Rollin is happy to stay with us personally and go out on loan in order to come back to try with us in 2020/21 season.

My mate is an Aldershot fan and praised Rollin as being a very capable defender, better than they’d had before, a v strong Nat. league standard. Could play in League 2 quite happily, so given time nothing to suggest he couldn’t become League 1/Champ standard considering he is still young. Just needs first team game time. I’d be disappointed tho if he went on loan to Nat. league again, should look for a League 2 side, maybe newly promoted. As for his strengths, he’s quite tall and well built. Looks fairly comfortable on the ball too. He’s been out on loan for a while since i last saw him play though so is likely improved. Loves a header.

Think he struggled to find another league 2 club now. He's 22 this year, so this season will be make out break for him, with us. If GC thinks Scales has more potential than Rollin. Than I'm happy for him, to move him on. Heard GC praise Kilgour a lot, but not heard him mention Rollin. Plus it was Kilgour who he recalled for cover. So think GC rates him more.

Oh yeah Kilgour is something else. Watched a few of his highlights from his time at Maidenhead and he is definitely our best young prospect. Rollin struggled to get into Swindon’s side true but didn’t they also take Broadbent from us? I think if Broadbent played ahead of Rollin then that wasn’t a great choice of loan move. However, Menayese is only 21 and can effectively play Nat. league, which to me says League 2/League 1 standard in a year or two, given that CBs and footballers generally hit their prime around 27 give or take. Whether we use him or not, if he were to get some games under his belt in the EFL then we could sell him for much more money than he is currently probably worth. He won’t play for us ahead of Kilgour and any of the more experienced CBs we have; but he is a future prospect we could sell on if we play it right.

True he could get better, not every player does though. Some drop down the league's, as they get older. Scales is younger than him as well. So if we bring him in, I can't see us keeping Rollin.
