Everyone talks about stadium capacity and how many we would need, but I notice Brentfords new stadium is "only" 17250. That seems low if they have a good game at Wembley tonight. There's a few reasons for that. The main one is the lack of space, they've crammed it into a tiny piece of land. There's a railway on one side and a road on the other, they've used every last inch of the land. They also recognise that building a 30,000 stadium for a club like Brentford would be a waste. In the Premier League, Fulham don't sell out every game despite being a bigger club.

It is quite a low capacity, I must admit. They must have scope, like most new stadiums do, to increase capacity if needed. Although they do have Chelsea, Fulham & QPR all within roughly 4 miles of them

Matchday revenue in the Championship is about, on average, 20% of income. So the difference between a 18,000-er and a 36,000-er is only about 10% of income. Matchday revenue in the prem is about 13% on average, so even less important.

Thats interesting, but surely viability of associated on site businesses is boosted by footfall and the more people you get through the door the more revenue you can generate. Perhaps not always categorised as matchday spend.

We therefore need to at least aim to be able to expand easily, or have a decent capacity from the off. Besides. If we’re home the weekend city are away in those circumstances then we’re picking up the floating voters each home weekend. London clubs who aren’t the big boys always have competition.

Bournemouth survived in the prem for 3 years with a ground with a similar capacity to the mem so I don't think a small ground is any bar to success. That said, I think with any new stadium for us, 20,000 has to be the magic number although I would take anything compared to what we have now as long as it has 4 all seater stands or is joined in a bowl. Anyone have any thoughts on how they'd want any potential new ground to look? Would it be four two tiered stands like Millwall or a bowl effect like Leicester? Or something completely different?

Bournemouth are now looking like complete divs, they spent 5 years in the top flight and have made no investment in their facilities. Long term that will be a massive error.

I think I would like 4 separate stands, a steep style right on top of the pitch. 20,000 would be nice and have it designed in a way the corners could easily be filled in to increase capacity if ever needed

I think they got permission for their training ground at around the same time we bought the Colony, but haven't done anything about it. Amazing that they've made us look quick.

Amazing that they've made us look quick. It's a real shame, reinvesting the Premier League money would essentially keep the club going for the next 30 years. Instead, they have nothing to show for it.

I don’t like two tiered stands. At least not behind the goals anyway, I think they hamper the atmosphere. Even the bigger clubs like Spurs realise this by having the one tiered stand behind the goal. Although I do understand they are better when there is reduced space, so like I said, if we have to have them then only along the sides. Although I’ll take anything right now!

The one that they're in the process of building but haven't started building? Construction contracts have been tendered, just needs final approval from the Secretary of State as I said. They haven’t reinvested the money as well as a club like Burnley though, to that end I would agree.

So after everyone slated Sam Frost on here for his information, turns out he was right?
You have to wonder though why Starnes said a few weeks if there is still a long way to go.. Unless its another piece of land/project?

I'm not sure... “There’s nothing I can announce for sure, but we are actively working on a project and I’m hoping, all being well, we will be able to announce something positive in the next few weeks.” It's been 2 months now..
