Andy The article by StokeLodgeGas references two Severnside bids, the ICI one is the one I was talking about. Still being developed now as a massive haulage/distribution area. All the best Phil If there was another scheme then I have no knowledge of it. The Redrow one I refer to was around 2004 and barely lasted a couple of months until it was scuppered. Maybe including the Avonmouth plan (mid 90s?). I still can picture the artist impressions in the Post. 25,000 rising to 40,000 if needed. Additional pitch alongside with separate stand for that too iirc.

Soon to be a 400 page thread , how many pages before the stadium is built ? Most of us know in our heart of hearts that it’s never going to get built don’t we?

I see in today’s Bristol Post online article Rovers are being urged to build a wooden carbon neutral stadium at the Fruit Market! Whether or not we do eventually settle on a stadium site nearer the centre of Bristol surely previous history dictates that any such stadium needs to be as flame resistant as possible? Rovers have presided over two stadium fire mishaps whether or not you subscribe to the view that fans of our near neighbours may have had a hand in the Eastville fire or the Twerton fire or both, it is surely a red rag to a bull to announce a modern stadium, centrally located and eminently flammable?

You can build wooden structures these days that are covered in a fire retardant coating so they aren’t flammable in the slightest. The Forest Green stadium is an example where this method has been used.

Somebody probably said the same when they proposed putting cladding on Glenfall, whilst you maybe able to put fire retardant coating on the outside of the wood what happens if a proper fire breaks out, the whole stadium would burn down in no time once a fire took hold.
