Bristol Rovers have had to operate under many different and restricting circumstances over its history. Placing the stadium as the only reason the club are underperforming is just finding easy scapegoats. Look at the expected standard at the club over the years. If you are to take every season we finish 10th or above in tier 3 (league one) as success. Every season finishing below that as failure. Modern times just seem to point to failure. 1950-1959 10 success 0 failure. 1960-1969 5 success 5 failure. 1970-1979 10 success 0 failure. 1980-1989 7 success 3 failure. 1990-1999 8 success 2 failure. So thats 40 seasons finishing 10th or above in league one (or being in league above). With 10 seasons finishing below 10th. Thats not league 2 or conference thats still being league one but below 10th. This century. 2000-2009 1 success 9 failure. 2010-2019 1 success 9 failure. 2020-2022 0 success 3 failure. Regardless of promotions ,thats promotions from leagues we should never have fallen into in the first place. So yes a new stadium may open doors and provide a platform to get back to how the club used to be but there is no guarantee. Look at Notts county, chesterfield etc who have all seater stadiums. Its not helping them. Remember the first season at the Mem ? No roof on the north terrace. No south stand. No south west stand. No family terrace. West stand not open. Changing rooms were portakabins stacked in the sw corner. Longer grass to suit the rugby. That was the worst the Mem was...yet the highest league positions gained. The running of the club and the people involved seem to be the real indicators of success. Can see what you are saying, however when we were first at the Mem, a lot of clubs were in a similar position or worse. Loads of those clubs have built new stadiums or stands since then. So it's not a true reflection. Look at Hull, Wigan, Swansea, Brighton, Reading. All clubs that have left us in their wake after building new stadiums. That’s why we’ve dropped average league positions since the 90s, we’ve been overtaken and have failed to adapt to the times. The advantages that a new stadium would give to the club in terms of capacity, revenue opportunities, parking and supporter match day experience are indisputable. Get it built.

It was an exclusivity deal not a deadline. I wouldn’t worry too much at this point. Even if it has expired and a deal has been done it doesn’t necessarily mean a deal won’t be done. It also doesn't mean a deal will do done, if they have then it seems odd to allow an exclusivity deal to lapse if they really intended proceeding, as another development company, who have no interest in building a stadium, could now make a move to try and agree a deal. it'll be interesting, or plain depressing, to see what is announced/leaked, in the next week or so.

It doesn't take rocket science to work out a stadium with a capacity of 20K+ which can be used 24/7 will generate more money than the Mem, hopefully Wael/TG have the business acumen to spend an additional money wisely, like Swansea seem to, and not do a Derby or Bolton etc.

A date of July 5th was set for the conygar announcement on whether they will proceed with the FM purchase , now everything has all gone quiet bit like UWE, when it eventually took a leek for supporters to find out the project had collapsed, is this going to happen again? hopefully not, but if if it does then the club need to act fast to improve the Mem so we can move forward as a club . Every delay in ground improvements is more revenue lost. Why do you keep suggesting Wael will need to develop the Mem when it's clearly not viable. We have no idea what's going on in the background, Wael & co could be working on an entirely different stadium plans rather than the FM, or not working on any plans if all his money is just being spent to keep us afloat from season to season. Not sure how reliable a source of info the BP is anymore, as they didn't have a clue Norwood's signing had fallen though & that Marquis was being signed.

That's why I posted it'll be interesting (a big stadium announcement) or plain depressing (they haven't been able to agree a deal and talks have now ended). If it is going to be announced a stadium is part of the project then I assume Wael, and possibly JB, will need to be in the country when it is announced.

I agree with axegas , when we played at Eastville against teams like Sunderland, Charlton, Watford, Hull Wolves even Chelsea had a ground with terracing and a shed, we were on par with those clubs their stadiums were not much better than ours and in the case of some 2nd tier clubs worse. Used to love the local derbies with Cardiff City, one example of when we left Eastville and they got a new stadium what use to be an annual event of a derby with them vanished such a shame. we need a better stadium so we can get back to playing some of those bigger clubs again in the second tier. Gerry Francis is probably the best manager we have had in the last 40 years, he worked a miracle to get us into the championship at little Twerton Park but left because of our facilities and the fact that he couldn't take us any further, if our facilities stay the same and JB gets us promoted again, he won't hang around we need a stadium that can take average gates of 10 - 14,000 whether it be the Mem or elsewhere like Eastville did back in the early 70's .

10-14K now only looks large enough for L1 given we're already selling out for games, if we ever get promoted then it looks like 20K will be the minimum required.
Without checking the attendances under Wael's ownership we've probably gone form 5/6K attendances in L2 to 8/9K in L1?

We have lost allot of regular supporters since then, take years to get that type of support back never the less are average gates do seem to rise by about 3,000 with a promotion and I suppose being that there are more bigger clubs in the 2nd tier average gates may get back up to 13-14,000 but no more, allot of supporters who watch the big games disappear with the run of the mill games.

Well if we don't get a new stadium we can't carry on playing at the Mem in its present form for the next 25 years !

We're clearly not going to average gates of 20K likewise it's unlikely we'll average nearly 10K for the rest of this season but we'll still get around that figure for the first few games and that's just in L1, we need a stadium big enough to hold enough fans for the big games, not just run of the mill games.
It's JB's task this season to attract the fair weather fans to attend every match.

From 5k to regular 9k under DC, back to 6k under the rabble after him and now back to 9k.

Listened to the podcast with Gorringe the other day and he suggested that there’s no viable future at the Mem.
Hopefully supporters might start to take heed of it that redeveloping the Mem is not an option after hearing it from the horses mouth.
Hoping for good news soon. We need it on stadium matters.

Surely that's at the Mem as it stands? If it's not viable then what are the club actually doing to get something which is, just sitting and hoping something will be built eventually?

Obviously if you get to play in the championship ,sell 13,000 plus season tickets. Average crowds around 20,000 in fancy new stands. Have conferences etc and big concerts at the stadium. If you do all this then the club is bound to be in profit....just like at Bristol city 1982ltd.
