If you cast back to recent times in SAARRRFFF Bristol, their (Franchise'82) plan was to buy a bit of cheap scrubland at Long Ashton and build a shiny, brand new all bells and whistles stadium.
This was thankfully scuppered and they had to resort to plan B and update sh*t towers. Can't see them struggling from non-matchday income, concerts and numerous conferences.
Same sort of issue here, a shiny new new stadium would be fantastic, however there is life in the MEM so plan B must surely be a viable but not plan A alternative.
587 pages of fluff, speculation and cat calling, priceless.

The converting debt to shares ,the improvements to the facilities at the Mem and the Quarters are all good things. However. Whilst the absorbtion of the big losses are admireable. The ownership by the Al Qadi family has now been long enough that the sympathy for the debts is drying up. The reality of not moving on bigger stadium work means the debts are now self inflicted. So what next? Do the fans turn on him and force him out? Are there multi millionaires/billionaires out there waiting for an opportunity to take on a perennial league one/two club that needs a £50m investment in a new site and stadium? We need to be careful what we wish for when we see what goes on at clubs with investors rather than football loving owners. Personally I’m willing to trust that Wael is doing his best behind the scenes to secure us somewhere to build a new stadium and would much rather have him as owner in the meantime so that I still have a club to support. Yes I would like to know more about what is and has been going on behind the scenes but perhaps there are genuine reasons why he isn’t able to be more open. Agree. A lot has happened in football since Wael bought the club. Then our particular circumstances with land prices, building costs, getting what I call "People, Process, Product" right within our club. I'm sure the to do list when he took over was enormous, with hurdles thrown at us that some were of our own making and some that were completely out of our control, there has to be times Wael must think what am I doing putting myself through the stress at times. Then you have the scene's twice at the Mem now with a promotion which must make it all worthwhile. I am pretty sure if you ask the Everton owner if he could get is money back today, you wouldn't see him for dust and then who do you end up with. Charlton Fans seemingly going through ownership issues for the second time. Crawley being owned by a bunch of "internet tokens" that the only value is based upon who wakes up in the morning and thinks they can double thier money in an hour. There are of course some success stories, our friends Swindon seem to have landed on there feet, Pomey seem to be a stable club once more financially. Chelsea, well are just Chelsea. You make the point however that if Wael did decide to sell, he would want whatever he thinks is the value of the club plus for the new owners they also have to come up with another £50 plus Million (more I would think, at some point for the Stadium). I know not quite the same, but we would need to find a new owner with deep pockets to take over the Gas, an Historical L1 / L2 club. Put into perspective, Saints sold in January for £100 Million (80% ownership). So there are a lot of choices out there for a very wealthy potential owner to choose from. I am with you, I really hope Wael sticks around for a long time to come. Plans or no plans for a new Stadium, I cant see that we are currently in anything other than a very safe pair of hands at this moment in time, and someone who genuinely has our best interests at heart.

The difference is that Ashton Gate is not hemmed in on all four sides by housing. That effectively rules out large concerts and lots of non-match day activities at the Mem. The conditions imposed by the planners on the permission given for a new North Stand (back in Geoff Dunford’s days) meant it wouldn’t generate enough non-football income, so it never went ahead.

Exactly Jock. More of the clubs that have flashed the cash that they do not have will fold before a club with an owner obeying the rules will. As we are on a personal note I don't know you BJ but have missed reading genuinely entertaining and I believe honest posts from your good self. Thanks for th kind comments pal. Appreciated, I wish yous good fortune 👍🏼

All well and good but surely something has to give at some point, Wael either decides to redevelop the Mem, finds a plot of land elsewhere and builds a new stadium, or just accepts he can't deliver either and sells up and then lets somebody else have a go. I can't see he can just write off £3m+ p.a. indefinitely, given that Jordan is hardly one of the wealthy Arab states. I'm finding the reference to N Bristol in the new shirt designs worrying, as surely that now means we're nowhere near announcing a new stadium is going to be built miles away from our homeland?

Is this for real Topper? You think the map on our latest shirt signifies no new Stadium plans? The shirt is literally next seasons… you know, when we will play at the Mem, in….. yup you guessed it, North Bristol! Jesus Wept!

It just seems strange timing suddenly making a big issue of playing in N Bristol when we're waiting for the FM announcement any day. Surely if Wael is seriously talking about moving to the FM, then he would have told the advertisers to come up with a different idea. I see others are saying the same on social media, so it's not only me.

I think we might be in danger of overanalysing a new kit design.

As it happens I read the club badge is on the spot of our “founding”. Is it on the spot of the cafe on Stapleton Road? Or IKEA? If the latter, they got it wrong.

I want Rovers to have a shiny new stadium with all the bells and whistles. This would be most beneficial for a city the size of Bristol. Having to put up with the embarrassing Mem is demoralising! It's unlikely a stadium will be built in my lifetime but up and coming supporters deserve this.

Exactly this the last gas head with the money needed to buy a super new stadium now has his money in Jersey and spends it on Bristol Bears and a tinpot team that shares the ground. As said we should be careful what we wish for. UTG

Why? We already know redeveloping the Mem isn’t viable so why pour money down the drain doing it? If you had an investment property with a dated kitchen, you wouldn’t put a new one in if the rent you could charge wouldn’t increase. Redeveloping the Mem does nothing but lose money. It’s a vanity project to have something shiny. Eventually a new site will be identified (if it hasn’t already) and the roi will be sufficient that it benefits the club. I share everyone’s frustration at the length of time it has taken so far but in the real world a new stadium is the only option and worth waiting for. Never gonna happen, its a convenient smokescreen. A convenient smokescreen for what?

Well done for still posting if you're in your late 70's/80's or even older.
